☀️ Summer’s winding down, but our fall trips are just getting started ✈️

This summer we chased the solar eclipse with our travelers through Rueda, Zaragoza, Sóller, Lagos and Coimbra — unforgettable! Now we’re excited about some off-the-beaten-path spots: Menorca, Costa Brava, the Camino de Santiago and the Alentejo. Our mission: show you corners of Spain and Portugal you didn’t even know existed.

📅 We’re booked through October, but currently accepting new clients for travel dates November and beyond — don’t miss out!

✍🏻In our latest blog, we’re giving you all the basics if it’s your first time traveling to Spain - including the question we get asked often, when’s the best time to visit?

Summer is winding down 😔 and we are already thinking about our plans for next year! The Spain Savvy family is currently dreaming about the Canary Islands — think year-round sun, both black and white sand beaches, volcanic hikes, and that laid-back island energy... without ever leaving Spain. Geographically, these islands are located just 60 miles off the cost of NW Africa and as such, enjoy an “eternal spring” climate. 😎

Here is a run down of the 8 main Canary Islands (each one is featured in order in this carousel!). We’ve been to Tenerife before, so this time, we’re planning on visiting the last 3 islands:

🌋Tenerife - biggest, most touristy, Mt. Teide volcano hikes, varied climate zones
🐫Gran Canaria - dune beaches complete with camels, lively nightlife, “mini-continent” landscapes
🌿La Palma - greener, less developed, off-the-beaten-path
😗La Gomera - mountainous with deep ravines and a unique ancient whistled language!
🤿El Hierro - smallest of the islands, best for diving and hiking
🌊Fuerteventura - best beaches and surf conditions; most laid-back and fewer crowds
🖼️Lanzarote - starkest volcanic scenery, black sand beaches, César Manrique architecture, quieter/artsy
🏝️La Graciosa - islet off Lanzarote, pristine white-sand beaches

Summer 2027 can’t come soon enough and we can’t wait to share our explorations with you.

🌑✨ Total solar eclipse en España — a once-in-a-century moment, and two Spain Savvy families had front-row seats.

One of our clients, professional eclipse photographer Nina Dunn, traveled to Zaragoza with her family to catch totality along the path — and captured these stunning shots of the sun’s corona at its most dramatic.

📸: Nina Dunn

Meanwhile, another family experienced it a little differently: watching the sky darken from the Finca Montepedroso vineyard in Rueda, glass of local wine in hand, surrounded by rolling vines.

We are grateful for the assistance of our partners at Enjoy Bardenas and Rioja Like A Native for helping to make this happen!

Two total eclipses, two completely different Spain experiences — and both unforgettable.

This is what we love about designing trips here: the same sky, the same two minutes of totality, but no two experiences are ever alike.

Missed this one? Spain gets another shot at totality on August 2, 2027 — DM us to start planning your front-row seat now, before the best viewing spots and hotels fill up. ☀️

✨ Site visit diaries: Casa del Limonero, Seville 🍋

We recently had a lovely research stay at this special little corner of Seville and we’re still dreaming about it. Casa del Limonero is one of those finds you tuck away and cherish — intimate, full of character, with that Andalusian courtyard charm that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in.

Every corner tells a story: the lemon trees in the patio, the morning light, curated artwork throughout that gives each space its own personality, and themed rooms so thoughtfully designed that no two stays feel the same. This is exactly the kind of secret gem we look for on behalf of our clients — authentic, one-of-a-kind, the sort of place you won’t find in the typical guidebooks.

We can’t wait to start weaving it into custom itineraries. Seville just got a new treasure, and we’re so excited to share it with you. 🇪🇸

A note on the wildfires in Spain 🇪🇸

First off, a heartfelt thank you to our clients and friends who have reached out to make sure Spain Savvy is safe - we are 🤗

You may have seen headlines about wildfires burning in parts of Spain this summer. We want to give you the facts, clearly and honestly: the active fires are concentrated inland in the north and northwest — mainly Zamora, León, and Castellón — with crews making real progress, though a few blazes are still being actively fought as conditions shift day to day.

The destinations most of our clients travel to — the Costa del Sol, Andalusia’s white villages, Barcelona, the Balearic and Canary Islands, Seville, and central Madrid — remain open, beautiful, and running as normal. Spain is a big country, and fires in one region don’t mean smoke over the whole map.

Our hearts are with the communities and firefighters dealing with this directly. For anyone with an upcoming trip: we’re watching conditions closely and will always tell you honestly if anything near your itinerary needs a second look. As of now, nothing does.

Spain is still Spain — sun, sea, incredible food, and all the magic you’re dreaming of. We can’t wait to help you experience it. 🌞

Traveling to Spain with children? Yes, you can (and without the stress!) 😉

We know that planning a family trip is different: nap times, food for demanding palates, and that extra energy that has to be channeled between monument and monument. 😅

That’s why at Spain Savvy we design itineraries designed especially for families:

🏰 Activities that adults and children love (castles, parks, beaches)

🍽️ Restaurants where everyone eats happily

🚗 Private transfers - without dragging suitcases or tired children

⏰ A realistic travel rhythm, with time to rest

We have been helping American families to discover Spain for years without the chaos of planning everything alone. You enjoy the trip, we take care of the logistics. 🙌

⭐️⭐️🏆 CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD! 🇪🇸⭐️⭐️

Spain is once again on top of the football world! Last night, La Roja defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time — Ferran Torres with the winning goal — to claim their second World Cup title, 16 years after their historic win in South Africa 2010.

At Spain Savvy, we can’t help but feel this pride runs deep. From the passion in the stands to the joy spilling into the streets all over the country, this is Spain at its very best — the same energy, warmth, and celebration our travelers experience on every trip we design.

Thinking about experiencing Spain’s electric spirit for yourself? There’s no better time to start planning. 🇪🇸✨

Spain goes way beyond Madrid and Barcelona 🙌🏻

Yes, they’re wonderful — but if you’ve already seen them (or want to skip the crowds), these 3 gems will steal your heart:

📍 Vejer de la Frontera — a whitewashed hilltop village in Cádiz, with Atlantic views and streets straight out of a storybook

📍 Granada — the Alhambra at sunset, the Albaicín neighborhood, and some of the best free tapas in Spain

📍 Seville — authentic flamenco, Plaza de España, and a way of life that makes you want to stay forever

At Spain Savvy we design itineraries that connect these towns (and many more!) so you experience the real Spain, not just the postcard version. 🇪🇸

🤖We put ChatGPT to the test.

We asked it to plan a 10-day family trip to Spain in July — complete with hotels, restaurants, transportation, and timings. And then we analyzed it, line by line.

The result? A solid starting point with some serious gaps. Wrong hotel locations. Impossible timings. Restaurants that need 2 weeks of advance booking, not 2 days. Alhambra tickets that require months of planning, not weeks. And a flamenco show squeezed in after an already-packed day trip.

AI is great at giving you the outline. But Spain is in the details — and that’s where a travel designer makes all the difference.

We live and work here. We know which hotel in Madrid to book (and which one to avoid). We know that 4pm is actually the *hottest* time to tour the Alhambra. We know the paella traps in Barcelona. And we’re available to text or call while you’re on the ground.

Don’t leave your family’s most precious travel memories in the hands of a database. 🔗 Link in bio to read the full breakdown — and to start planning your perfectly human-designed trip to Spain.
