Nope.

We just turned into a plant for a while 🌿

(You know… one of those that looks dead but is actually just waiting 👀)

PR1 was closed.
New hiking rules dropped.
Everything got… complicated.

So we did what smart plants do:
We paused.

But now conditions are good again 👇

And guess what?

🚐 Transfers are back

🚨 Trail Update | PR1 Pico do Areeiro – Pico Ruivo 🚨

The legendary PR1 trail will finally reopen in April 2026, for the Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT) event! 🏃‍♂️⛰️

Closed since in August 2024 for safety and restoration works, the path between Areeiro and Pico Ruivo is being carefully rebuilt and reinforced to ensure long-term protection of the mountain environment.

The PR1 trail will reopen exclusively for the MIUT 2026 event in April, as part of the race. After that, the regional government and IFCN will evaluate the trail’s condition before deciding on a full reopening to the public. 🏔️

Access will be limited according to trail capacity, focusing on sustainable tourism and preserving the beauty of Madeira’s highest peaks.

This reopening marks a major step in balancing nature conservation and adventure, with MIUT 2026 symbolically celebrating the return of the island’s most iconic route 🌄

🥾 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐦 - and this one’s a must-do! PR2 in Porto Santo circles the island’s highest peak, Pico do Facho, and offers breathtaking views all around.

We were lucky enough to catch Porto Santo in its rare green phase 🌱💚 after a rainy winter - a totally different vibe from its usual golden tones.

And guess what? Sherlock 🐕‍🦺 isn’t just a pro at sniffing out octopuses 🐙 - he’s also a stellar mountain guide! With his hiking partner Mathias, they showed us some seriously stunning spots! 🙌

We had the best time with Mathias & Sherlock - super chill, full of stories, and clearly in love with this island. Mathias showed us spots we’d never find on our own, and thanks to him we got a peek into the colorful life hiding just below the surface 🐟

How many more people need to die before we understand that nature is not a playground? Madeira’s mountains (and beyond) are breathtaking - but they are also unforgiving.

Just days ago, a young hiker fell 200 meters on Madeira’s PR1 trail. He stepped outside the safety barrier - for a photo.
Now he’s gone. Forever. 🪔

This is not about fear. It’s about respect. For the land, for the weather, for your own life.

Stay on the trail. Know your route. Respect closures. Don’t chase the perfect shot.

You don’t need to risk everything for a memory.

Make it home. That’s the real adventure.
