Our (everyday) skipper, our boss, our extra guide when it comes to s***m whales, and above all, our friend.
He’s the one who, without fail, will tell you EVERY SINGLE DAY that the s***m whale is the best animal in the world (and he’s probably right). Followed closely by the cat, and then the T-Rex.

He’ll remind you that the orca is just a dolphin in a bear costume, and that the sei whale is basically a pineapple pizza.

Today, to celebrate his birthday, he did exactly what he loves most: went out to sea to watch whales, while working.
He’s the kind of person who completely tunes out the world the moment he hears the clicks of s***m whales through his beloved hydrophone. And he’s never afraid, in fact, he’s eager, to share and teach his passion for marine life with everyone he works with every day, as well as those who only cross paths with him once.
Working with such grounded and empath person is something we’re quietly grateful for.
Happy birthday Pedro! 🐋✨

🇬🇧: Over the past few days, two moments stood out. While we were observing a distant s***m whale, another surfaced unexpectedly nearby, approaching the boat and offering a rare close view. Later, we found a calm group of short-finned pilot whales moving slowly at the surface. 🌀💙

🇬🇧 Today we kicked off the trip with a surprisingly calm humpback whale encounter, followed by some classic whale waiting (if you know, you know), totally worth it when a few s***m whales finally appeared.
Also a playful pod of bottlenose dolphins joined us, and one last s***m whale surfaced with surprising energy, interacting closely with them.
And the super highlight? A massive pod of over 100 false killer whales powered through the channel toward the south, right in front of Monte da Guia.
What a morning!

🇬🇧: As you can imagine, the whole boat went 'ohhhhh!' watching a bottlenose dolphin mother with her calf. :) 🤏🏼💙
Bottlenose dolphins are known for their strong maternal bonds. Calves are born tail-first after about 12 months of pregnancy, which helps prevent drowning during birth. They stay close to their mothers for 2 years, learning how to find food, communicate, and navigate their environment. This close relationship is key to their survival and development.

Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) migrate between tropical breeding grounds and cold, nutrient-rich feeding areas, doing one of the longest migrations of any mammal.
They filter tiny krill and small fish through baleen plates, which act like a giant sieve.
Their name comes from the hump on their backs and their long “wings” — Megaptera means “big-winged.” Their pectoral fins can reach up to one-third of their body length, the longest of any whale.
They’re also famous for their acrobatics: breaching, tail slapping, and pectoral fin waving, behaviors that may serve for communication, mating displays, or parasite removal.
We’ve been lucky to spot this humpback several times this past days! 🐋

🇬 Humpback whales, sei whales, s***m whales, and, for the first time this season, Atlantic spotted dolphins (🥳) were among the highlights!
Common, bottlenose, and Risso’s dolphins completed a diverse list of our sightings.
We’re entering a transitional phase at sea: while some of the baleen whales are still passing through, the first signs of summer species are already making their presence felt. 💙
