Sealife has specialised in dolphin watching on the Atlantic Ocean for over 15 years. We are operating from the marina of Lagos in the Algarve, the southern district of Portugal. We organise ocean safaris onboard our rigid inflatable boats and our 11m fast Catamaran, with the objective of showing you wild dolphins in their natural environment or other ocean wildlife such as whales, porpoises, turtl

es, sunfish or sharks. Our passionate team realised that we can try and do more than taking clients out to see the fabulous marine wildlife and so, the new Sealife Awareness Centre & Eco Shop was born! It's a space where we can display our collected data and also teach people in more detail about these wonderful creatures, hopefully raising more awareness for their protection and conservation of their habitat! Dolphins NEVER fully fall ASLEEP. 😴🐬

One half of their brain sleeps while the other stays awake, allowing them to breathe and stay aware of their surroundings. They even keep one eye open while resting! 👀

Our dolphin watching tours have around a 97% sighting success rate, but nature is unpredictable and that is exactly what makes these moments real and special.

No one can guarantee wildlife sightings, because these animals are wild and free. What we can guarantee is honesty, respect for the animals, an experienced crew, marine biologists on board and a meaningful experience at sea.

Meet the three dolphin species you’re most likely to see on our tours. 🪸🌊

🐬 Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis) - One of the most frequently sighted species on our tours. They can reach 2.7 m, 235 kg, live up to 35 years, and dive for about 8 minutes.

Highly curious and interactive, they often approach boats and show interest in observing humans.

🐬 Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) - The largest of the three species, reaching up to 3.9 m, 635 kg, and living up to 67 years, with dives of around 13 minutes.

Highly intelligent and playful, they have even been known to interact with pufferfish 🐡, using their toxin for relaxing effects.

🐬 Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) - They can grow up to 2.6 m, weigh 156 kg, and live up to 58 years.

Often seen with common dolphins, forming large groups. Their close bond sometimes even results in hybrid calves. They also known for roto-tailing, spinning and slapping the water with their tail.
