Since 2013, I have been crafting, refining & sharing my one-of-a-kind adventure experiences, one small batch at a time, with thousands of guests from around the world. My approach is unconventional:a

I choose wilderness & remoteness over guidebook tourist destinations; intentional, mindful travel over superficial sightseeing; discovery & learning opportunities over photo opportunities; and rustic

📓 Trip Report – Still Awaiting Summer

May in the Algarve is usually when spring gives way to summer: beach weather, endless blue skies, and long warm evenings.

But not yet.

Spring is still very much hanging on out here, with moody skies, stormy winds, and rain showers rolling through all week long. Monday’s adventure felt like four seasons in one day.

Thanks to my international crew — from the USA, Netherlands, and Taiwan — for a great day out West!

📓 Trip Report – Beginner’s Mind

Today we had it all: blue skies, a cool breeze, good hiking, and even better company — topped off with a great sunset.

But the thing I’ll remember most? Being both a teacher and a student.

With three field biologists in the group, I wasn’t the only one sharing stories and teaching moments out there. It was one of those days where I learned as much as anyone.

Thanks, crew, for your sharing your knowledge and positive energy. It was a real pleasure to spend the day with you!

👣 Trail Moment – Full Moon Rising

Most people don’t realize that the full moon rises in the East at almost the exact moment the sun sets in the West.

Yup. Every single time.

So once a month, if the clouds align, we get a double show, like this one last week: the sun falling into the sea as the moon rises from the land.

Magical.

📓 Trip Report – Summer Skies, Spring Air

After months of endless rain (thank you, sky gods!), it’s finally starting to feel like summer out here.

Sunny, warm, blue skies… but still with a touch of spring in the air: fresh, cool, and crisp.

Easter week has officially kicked off the tourist season, and I had a beautiful run of hikes this week.

First sunset of the new season.

On my first tour of the year, the West Coast did not disappoint.

This is the lighthouse at the End of the World — Cabo de São Vicente, where Europe falls into the Atlantic.

In the summer, we steer well clear of this tourist hotspot.

But at this time of year, the Cape becomes a haunting, elemental place — where wind, waves, and sky briefly outweigh the crowds.

So we take it while we can.

Plenty more sunsets to come in 2026.

🌊 Off-Season Moment — “Gone Fishing”

Winter storms have brought truly wild conditions to the West Coast this week — howling winds over 80kph (!) and waves topping 8 meters (!!).

But the West Coast fishermen? Can’t stop ‘em. Throwing lines from 50-meter cliffs into a seething sea (at age 70?!), just another day’s work.

I’ve been away this past month, “gone fishin’” myself. But there’s no better way to return than with a reminder of just how wild and elemental this place really is.

🌊 Off-Season Throwback: Big Wave Watching

Welcome to Big Wave Season.

All winter long here in the Western Algarve, I’m watching the charts for the big ones — not to surf, just to watch.

Today brought 5-meter waves to the West Coast… and in the coming months, they’ll only get bigger.

As we await the really big ones of this wave season, here’s a throwback to last year’s biggest storm.
For scale: those cliffs are 40 meters tall.
