🗺 A self-guided week, from the booking to the last stage.

You walk on your own. Everything around the walking is arranged before you arrive.

🏡 Accommodation booked along the route, subject to availability
🧳 Luggage moved between each night's stay, every day
📖 A digital guidebook with day by day routes, GPX tracks, water points and the numbers you might need
🚐 Transfers between stages where the route does not join up
☎️ A 24 hour line, if something goes wrong

There is no group to keep up with and no morning briefing to attend. The guidebook is the briefing, and it is on your phone before you land.

Eight days and seven nights is the usual shape. Longer versions exist.

🌾 The Algarve most July visitors never see.

Inland, on the Via Algarviana near Alcoutim, the Algarve is dry hills, the Guadiana river, and white villages with the heat shimmering off them. No coastline, no crowds. Just the quiet interior that most people drive straight past on the way to the beach.

It's a different walk to the coast, and in its own way a harder one in summer, which is exactly why it stays this empty.

Save this for your planning, and send it to whoever likes the quiet route.

🎒 A July packing list for Portugal, stripped to what actually matters.

Skip the long list. In summer here a handful of things carry the day, and the card has the shortlist. Everything else is comfort. The ones that change how the walk feels by mid-afternoon are the sun cover you don't skip, the salt your water forgets, the capacity for a long inland day, and the one layer for the sea breeze.

🍂 If you're planning a Portugal walk now, the window worth circling is October.

Summer here walks well with planning, early starts, shade, water. But if your dates are still open, autumn is when the trails settle back into their easiest stretch: daytime in the high teens and low twenties, soft light on the coast, the inland paths dry and quiet.

The catch is lead time. The smaller houses on both trails, especially inland, fill early for the autumn weeks. Planning now is what keeps October open.

Are you a spring or an autumn walker? Tell us below.

Save this for when you're picking dates, and send it to whoever you'd plan a trip with.

🌅 The end of the country, at the end of a July day.

Cape St. Vincent is where the land runs out: Europe's southwestern point, the lighthouse, and the Atlantic on three sides. In summer the late afternoon is its hour, when the light softens and the heat eases off the cliffs.

Two of our walks finish here. The Fishermen's Trail brings you in along the coast, the Via Algarviana across the interior. Same lighthouse, two very different weeks behind you.

Save this for your summer plans, and send it to whoever you'd walk it with.

🌡 Before we send anyone out on a July stage, we read the day, not just the temperature.

A single number tells you almost nothing about how a walk will feel. The card lists what we actually check first. Most July days don't need cancelling, they need adapting, shifting the timing, swapping a stage, resting through the middle, and that's the part we handle so the walker doesn't have to.

When a forecast looks rough, do you reshuffle the plan or wait it out? Tell us below.

🗺️ Two things every Farol walker gets before they set off: a guidebook, and a number.

The guidebook does most of the work. It's where the day-to-day detail lives:

📍 Where to refill water on each stage
🥾 What each day actually involves
🛏 Where you sleep, and how your bag gets there
🌳 The shadier route options when it's hot

Then there's the number. Not a concierge that checks in on you. An inbound line, answered by a real person, 24 hours, for the moments the guidebook can't cover: a missed turn, a change of plan, anything that feels off.

Most people never need to call. Knowing they can is the point.

On a self-guided walk, what would settle your nerves more: having it all written down in advance, or a real person a phone call away? Tell us below.

🌳 In July, the cork oaks earn their keep.

On the inland trails, the montado is the closest thing the route has to air-conditioning. The canopy holds the heat off the path, the ground stays cooler than the open coast, and the light comes through soft instead of hard. Walk an exposed cliff and a cork oak stretch on the same hot day and your body knows the difference immediately.

It's one reason we route inland stages through the shade in summer rather than around it.

Save this for your summer planning, and send it to your favourite walking partner.

🧭 Coast or inland in July? The honest answer is both.

Two climates sit an hour apart here, and summer is when that difference matters most. We tend to mix them across a week rather than pick one.

🌊 The coast: sea breeze off the Atlantic, open cliffs, cooler air than the map suggests
🌳 Inland montado: cork oak shade, still and quiet, the heat held off by the canopy
⛰ Monchique: higher ground, mountain air, a different kind of cool again

Same week, three ways to stay comfortable. The mix is what makes a July walk work instead of just endure.

If you had a summer week here, would you lean coast or inland? Tell us below.

Save this for planning, and send it to whoever you'd travel with.

💧 The question we get most about a July walk: how much water do I actually carry?

More than spring asks for. The card has the real numbers, but the short version is this: the coast is kinder than the open inland sectors, plain water stops being enough once it's properly hot, and the smartest litre is the one you top up at breakfast and again at the stage end. Where to refill on each stage lives in your guidebook, so you're never guessing mid-walk.

Planning a summer walk? Tell us how much you'd guess you need for a full day in the heat.
