This weekend, celebrates 17 years of 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘴 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘴 with a walk along the Alvor estuary.

𝘈𝘰 𝘚𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘳é — "at the taste of the tide." 4.7 km, easy level, through tidal flats and open coastal air.

Our owner and lead guide, 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗮, was invited to join German TV presenter Johannes Zenglein on SWR’s travel format “𝗠𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗿𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗯𝘀-𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸”:
“Pauschalurlaub an der Algarve” (09.01.2026).

The challenge: exploring the Algarve without a rental car. And yes, you can still have an amazing time.

The coastal walkways around Lagos are such a good way to see the cliffs and viewpoints (and get away from “just driving around”).

Pastel de nata, Algarve sweets (egg + almond + fig), and a proper cataplana in a family-run spot. Fresh ingredients, no tricks.

🌊 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻
Boat tours are fun, but kayaking gives you a totally different vibe: closer, quieter, more intimate.

Nature reserve, boat access, local communities, and small-scale projects like the oyster farm on Culatra.

Every year in November, the sun comes back for a few days, and we call it Verão de São Martinho. It’s a tiny summer in the middle of autumn, when people roast chestnuts (you see, this is a theme) and taste the new wine (agua-pé).

Portugal smells different in November. The streets fill with smoke from roasted chestnuts, and every corner feels like home.
They’re called castanhas quentes e boas (warm, good chestnuts). Just like autumn should be. 🍂

One of the unexpected joys of discovering a new place?
You pay a different kind of attention to things.

🌸 Flowers that can be so unique in their beauty they stop you mid-step.
🍒 A fruit stall where everything smells like sunshine.
🥬 Lettuces so leafy that look like roses.
🌳 And jacarandás, blooming again in the city.

→ Here’s a fun bit of botanical trivia: in Portugal jacarandás bloom in May. But because they originally come from the Southern Hemisphere, where spring falls in October, they sometimes bloom here in Europe in October too, as if they still remember. A mini spring, out of season, just because.
