Located just a few steps from Rossio Square, the Church of São Domingos is one of the most dramatic and emotionally striking places in Lisbon.
Originally built in the 13th century, the church has survived multiple disasters — including the 1755 earthquake and a devastating fire in 1959. Instead of being fully restored, it was left with its scars visible: blackened pillars, cracked walls, and a raw atmosphere that moves everyone who enters.
This church is also tied to darker chapters of Lisbon’s past — such as the 1506 massacre of thousands of Jews, right outside its doors.
For us, it’s a place that reminds us how cities carry memory in their stones. A powerful stop to feel the weight of history — and how far we’ve come.

A poucos passos do Rossio, a Igreja de São Domingos é um dos lugares mais impactantes e emotivos de Lisboa.
Construída no século XIII, esta igreja resistiu a várias tragédias — incluindo o terramoto de 1755 e um incêndio devastador em 1959. Em vez de ser totalmente restaurada, foi deixada com as marcas visíveis: colunas chamuscadas, paredes fissuradas e uma atmosfera crua que toca quem por ali passa.
É também um espaço ligado a episódios sombrios da história lisboeta — como o massacre de judeus em 1506, mesmo ali à porta.
Para nós, é um lugar que mostra como as cidades guardam memórias nas suas pedras. Um ponto de paragem forte, para sentir o peso da história — e a importância de seguirmos em frente.
