At Prague Spring 2026, 19 schools came together, representing 10 nationalities, including students from Kazakhstan and Lesotho, both new to the program.

The experience also included CAS Trips staff from 27 nationalities and partnerships with four Czech schools, bringing students from around the world together with young people from Prague.

Why does that matter?

It makes cultural exchange a fully integrated part of the experience. Beyond dedicated activities, it happens when students work together, eat together, solve problems, compare experiences, and realize the person next to them may see the world quite differently.

That's an international classroom. And it's at the heart of our Prague Spring Global Student Exchange.

Three Prague Springs later, what keeps one CAS Coordinator coming back?

For Didem Bektaş of FMV Işık High School, it comes down to meaningful service experiences, international connections, and giving students the chance to step outside their usual world.

From meeting students from Albania and Qatar to navigating shared accommodation, working with local communities and discovering the impact of a simple magazine-selling activity, Prague Spring has given her students plenty to reflect on.

One of the things we care about most in community-led service is what happens beyond the time students spend on the ground.

The work begins before the trip, as students learn about the communities they will visit and prepare to engage respectfully. And where possible, it continues afterward, with schools staying connected to the projects and people they met.

Na Chao Village in Vietnam is one example.

After their experience in the community, students from Hyla School contributed $230 towards sports equipment for the village playground. The donation helped purchase football goals, footballs, volleyball nets and balls, and badminton nets.

Children in the village now use the equipment regularly after school and on weekends, creating a space for exercise, teamwork, friendship, and play.

It’s a reminder that meaningful community engagement doesn’t have to involve a large-scale project. It's about listening, understanding what is useful, and building relationships that can continue after students return home.

Community-led service can look like a new road being built in a village in Mai Chau, sea turtles being protected in Escobilla, or a project shaped entirely by locals in Morocco’s Aït Bouguemez Valley.

These initiatives belong wholly to our local partners. They know their towns, people, priorities, and what is actually needed on the ground.

That is why this Community-Led Service Award means so much. The credit belongs entirely to the people doing the heavy lifting long before any students ever show up. We're incredibly grateful to be welcomed into their space and to learn alongside them.
