The Humpback whale on the picture is a re-sighting. Last seen on the 10th of July 2024, it honered us again on the 4th of July this year 🐳

Some days on the water take your breath away - the last days were one of those. From blue whales to sleek, powerful fin whales and the stars of the Azores the S***m whales all graves us with their presence.

Watching these magnificent beings move through the ocean is a humbling reminder of the wild beauty that lies just beyond the shore. 🐳

Last week, Giada and Enrico from CW Azores attended the 2025 European Cetacean Society Conference 🐋 in Ponta Delgada, Azores, and presented a poster on the sightings and habitat preferences of four different species of baleen whales here in the Azorean 'Triangle'. Furthermore, Lauren Rodriguez, PhD student at the University of Innsbruck, gave a talk on some great results obtained for the eWHALE project, sharing fascinating insights from the environmental DNA (eDNA) samples she collected with us. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of cetaceans and their ecological networks in the Azores, highlighting the value of eDNA as a tool for marine conservation.
