Wir haben einen letzten Praktikumsplatz für deutschsprachige Studierende in den Monaten August und September 2026 anzubieten.

✔️ Mindestaufenthalt: 4 Wochen
✔️ Gebühren: Keine – keine Kosten für Studierende
✔️ Unterkunft: wird von CW Azores zur Verfügung gestellt

Teilnahmebedingungen:
- Wissenschaftlicher Hintergrund (Biologie, Meeresbiologie, Naturwissenschaften oder ähnliches)
- Gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift, Muttersprache Deutsch
- Akzeptierte Programme: Erasmus+, allgemeine Praktika/Ausbildungsplätze

Deine Aufgaben:
Die Feldarbeit konzentriert sich im Sommer auf Pottwale. Du lernst außerdem, wie man Gäste während unserer Walbeobachtungstouren sowohl an Bord als auch in unserem Zentrum brieft, debrieft und betreut.

The waters around Pico Island have been offering some beautiful encounters lately. 🐋

Over the past few days, we've been lucky to encounter a wonderful variety of marine life: S***m Whales, Sei Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Striped Dolphins, sea turtles, and even the fascinating Portuguese Man o' War drifting across the deep blue.
Every trip is different, every sighting is unique, and every moment reminds us just how special the waters around the Azores truly are.🩵

A big thank you to everyone who has joined us on board to share these unforgettable moments. We look forward to discovering what the ocean has in store for us next! 🌊

Meet this beautiful cetacean and discover fascinating facts about this intelligent and playfull marine mammal 🐬✨

Recent trips at sea have been filled with wonderful encounters with the Azorean marine life around Pico Island.🐋

We enjoyed lovely encounters with Risso’s dolphins, especially a well-known pod that includes an individual missing its dorsal fin.🐬

S***m whales are also frequently spotted in the area. We have observed clusters of females as well as young males, allowing us to witness their impressive flukes as they dive back into the depths for another feeding dive.🦑🐙
We also witnessed a loggerhead turtle attacking a Portuguese man o’ war! Swimming just beneath the surface towards the siphonophore, the turtle approached its prey, which was unable to swim away, and quickly swallowed it. Some of the sticky, stinging tentacles were left floating in the water, while others remained attached to the turtle’s face and flippers. Fortunately, sea turtles are not sensitive to the powerful nematocysts of the Portuguese man o’ war.
