Muito antes das máquinas e da tecnologia, o Homem olhou para as montanhas íngremes de xisto e fez o impossível: esculpiu-as com as próprias mãos.
Para impedir que a chuva levasse a pouca terra fértil encosta abaixo, foram erguidos milhares de quilómetros de muros de pedra posta — feitos de xisto encaixado à mão, sem uma única gota de cimento.

Se alinhássemos todos os muros de xisto do Douro em linha reta, eles dariam a volta a quase metade do planeta Terra!
Cada patamar foi desenhado para maximizar a exposição solar e reter o calor na pedra durante a noite, garantindo a maturação perfeita das uvas do Vinho do Porto.

Long before machines and technology, humans looked at the steep schist mountains and achieved the impossible: they carved them out with their own hands.
To prevent rain from washing the scarce fertile soil down the slope, thousands of kilometers of dry-stone walls were erected—built from hand-fitted schist, without a single drop of cement.

If we lined up all the schist walls of the Douro in a straight line, they would stretch around nearly half the planet!
Each terrace was designed to maximize sun exposure and retain heat in the stone overnight, ensuring the perfect ripening of the grapes used for Port w**e.
