The 10th annual "Algarve Rugby Festival" will be taking place at Browns Sports Resort in Vilamoura on Saturday the 28th of March. Doors open at 12:30 and entrance is Free.

Carnaval 2020

This year Carnival commences on the Saturday the 23rd and terminates on the 25th of February. The most famous location is Loule but many other towns and even villages hold their own processions. One such village is Odiaxere near Lagos which is noted for the originality of its floats on the Tuesday afternoon.

The"Festival of Batata-Doce" will be held in the village of Aljezur between the 29th of November and and December the 1st, between the hours of 12:00 and 24:00. This particular area on the west coast is renown for the individual quality of its sweet-potato with interesting and tasty dishes that have been created using this essential product.

Feira de Sao Martinho - Portimao

This weekend, and until the 17th of November, the 357th "Feira de Sao Martinho" will be taking place in the exhibition area located at the north of the town. This Fair is always well attended because of its large variety of stalls selling items and the fun fairground activities for the children.

BLiP Fair in Portimao

Superbike World Championship

From Friday the 6th to Sunday the 8th of September a "Superbike World Championship" will be held at the Algarve International Circuit near to the town of Portimao. This event has attracted some of the best Superbike riders in the world competing for a much coveted prize.

Quarteira holds "4th Octopus Week"

From September the 6th to the 15th the coastal town of Quarteira is holding an "Octopus Week". There are 27 local restaurants who will be serving dishes with this lively Cephalopoda as the central feature.

Goose Barnacles at Vila do Bispo

The small town of Vila do Bispo situated close to Sagres in the western Algarve are holding their annual "Perceves Featival" which are in English known as "goose barnacles". These sea creatures are considered an expensive luxury when available in European leading restaurants. Ideally, they should be eaten on the same day as they are gathered and some 80 local fishermen will be doing their best to satisfy the anticipated 4,000 visitors based on last year figures!

Portimao Sardine Festival

From the 7th of August until the 11th this month Portimao will be holding its very popular "Sardine Festival" on the quayside. As usual a plate of sardines with boiled potatoes and salad will be sold at a reduced price to the accomplement of different live musicians each night.

Feira do Presunto

The popular "Feira do Presunto" will be taking place this weekend in Monchique on the 20th and 21st of July. This annual event in which the famous dry-cured ham of the area will be on sale along with handicrafts from the region and its honey. The fair commences at 17:00 and finishes at 01:00 on both days. Live music will be provided from 22:00 and entrance is free.

Sand City

Located on the EN 125 between Porches and Lagoa is the wonderful world of "Sand City". This park has on show fascinating sand sculptures made by over fifty artists from various parts of Europe. The subjects chosen range from history to present day, covering famous or mystical personalities or world renown landmarks. Sea animals to fauna and flora, no subject is left forgotten.
