Look closely at the center of this flower.
The wild contrast between the soft, pale yellow outer petals and that deep, velvet-dark center is one of our favorite sights when exploring the sunny trails of the region.

​Often found thriving in rocky limestone soils, this resilient wildflower is a master at soaking up the Mediterranean sun. It’s a perfect reminder that some of the greatest wonders in the park are right at our feet, waiting to be discovered.

Why you won’t find my face in these photos. 🌿

In a world shouting for attention, I prefer to listen.
​You’ll notice my feed is full of fossils, lagoons, and the quiet details of the Serras (like this tiny visitor) but very few photos of me.

​When you book a Nature experience, you aren't paying to watch an "influencer" perform for a camera. You are paying to disappear into the landscape yourself. My ego doesn't need to be in the frame; my expertise is in making sure you are the protagonist of the story.

​I am a translator, not a star. My job is to step back so you can hear the silence of the mountains and see the details that 175 million years of history have left behind.

​If you’re looking for a stage, there are plenty of tour buses for that. If you’re looking for a peaceful existence and a guide who values the territory more than the "selfie," I’ll meet you in the mountains.

Let’s be honest: the "Serras" can be intimidating.

It’s a dry, stone-filled landscape with no surface rivers and spotty cell service.

If you just show up and start walking, you’ll likely end up hot, tired, and missing the best spots...which are literally hidden underground or tucked away in valleys like this one behind me ⛰️

If you want to experience the real Portugal, the one without the Sintra crowds...you need a plan.

I want to know —
have you ever seen one of these?

This is a Swallowtail butterfly.
Papilio machaon. One of the most
spectacular insects in Europe —
and one that most people have
never seen outside a photograph.

I found this one this week on the
limestone plateau of Serras de Aire
e Candeeiros, resting on bare ground
in the morning sun.

That behaviour has a reason.

Swallowtails are cold-blooded.
On cool spring mornings they seek
out warm pale surfaces — limestone,
sand, dry soil — and open their
wings at precisely this angle to
maximise the surface area exposed
to sunlight.

It is not resting.
It is fuelling up.

In about twenty minutes it will
lift off and you will understand
immediately why it has that name.

The blue on the hindwing is not
pigment. It is structure —
microscopic scales that refract
light the way a soap bubble does.
The colour exists only because
of the angle between the wing,
the light, and your eye.

Move slightly and it disappears.

A butterfly that is partly made
of geometry.

You will not be in a group of 24 people following a flag.

There is no flag.

That distinction matters more than most people realise before they arrive.

In a group tour, the experience is calibrated to the average. The pace is the average pace. The questions are the average questions. The stops are where the average person needs to stop.

If you want to stay 40 minutes beside a dinosaur footprint because you keep finding something new to look at... we stay. If you want to ask why a specific rock formation looks the way it does and follow that question for two kilometres... we follow it. If you want silence... we have silence.

I have guided scientists, children, people who knew nothing about natural history and people who knew more than I do. The tour is never the same twice.
Because the person in front of me is never the same twice.
