The La Hacienda Links (former Alcaidesa Links), has one of the best views of the entire municipality of San Roque over the Mediterranean and is the only Links-style course in southern Spain. It has 18 holes par 72, and it was opened in 1992; nowadays, has been recently redesigned by Kurtis Bowman and is now a modern golf course sustainable.

It is a challenging golf course, with unique views, and with quality in its route at the level of the best courses in Europe. It is made up of wide fairways, double greens, large bunkers strategically located and gentle slopes that descend towards the sea, ending in a beautiful beach, creating a front of almost 2 km so that a large part of its holes border the beach.

The La Hacienda Links is now more to the sea and has one of the best views of the entire Costa del Sol over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa, which can be appreciated from all its greens.

Vilamoura Laguna Golf Course is located in the so-called Golden Triangle, the prestigious area between Faro and Albufeira is known for its breathtaking natural beauty: pristine beaches and sand dunes, and dramatic cliffs.

After a requalification project, the reopening of the Vilamoura Laguna Golf Course is scheduled for September, the plans for the refurbishment of the golf course were based on three key pillars: definition, contrast, and uniformity.

The plans included the full substitution of the outdated irrigation system was not able to keep the course in good condition in the dry months. With this, it was possible to reduce water consumption by around 30%, for the same playing area. This saving in water consumption is also possible due to the new varieties of grass selected, which are more tolerant of water shortages.

At its reopening players can expect a golf course in which it will be possible to clearly identify all areas to play, along with the contrast given by the different tones of grass and cutting heights.

The Algarve region of Portugal is home to some a number of Europe’s Top 100 golf courses, much of which is due to its ideal terrain and weather conditions.

As a consequence any golf course built on the Algarve has to achieve very high standards of design and management not to be looked upon as inferior. The Vale da Pinta golf course, set in the Pestana Golf Resort near Carvoeiro in the Western Algarve, is a course that accepts the ‘quality’ label with ease.

The 8 times consecutive host of the European Seniors Tour Qualifying final, Vale de Pinta golf in the Algarve, is rightly respected not just for its playability and challenging layout but for outstanding levels of beauty and enjoyment. Designed by the famous American golf course architect Ronald Fream and inaugurated in 1992 Vale de Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in the Algarve and in Europe.

Ronald Fream used the natural landscape of rolling hills, olive groves and other indigenous trees and vegetation combined with a couple of man-made lakes to superb effect. Buenavista Golf Course is situated in the extreme North-Western corner of the island of Tenerife, Spain; located on striking cliffs and flanked by the impressive Teno Country Park. This 18 holes and Par 72 golf course was designed by Seve Ballesteros and it was inaugurated in October 2003. By making the most of its close proximity to the stunning coastline, the course has been perfectly integrated into the terrain in a way that on several of the greens the feeling you get is that the ball is being hit straight into the ocean.

Fairways at Buenavista Golf Course are generally wide and forgiving, though do not stray too far into the lateral waste areas as thick vegetation and rocks will hamper any attempt at retrieving a stray ball. Around the greens, sand-based putting surfaces are very receptive to holding approach shots and bunkers are generally wide and shallow, allowing a fair number of “sand saves” to be made.

The large central lake in front of the Club House between the 9th and 18th holes and a waterfall are water obstacles that lend a fresh feel to this unusual golf course in North Tenerife. The recommended route to the course is via the small town of El Tanque but we recommend that you hang a left at Santiago del Tiede and take the narrow, twisting mountain road through Masca. Combining the sensational scenery of this tourist trail with 18 holes at Buenavista is an experience not to be missed.

Espiche Golf Course in the Western Algarve is just a 10km distance from the historical city of Lagos, designed by South African architect Peter Sauerman; the course is set within the unspoilt undulating countryside. The greens and fairways have been carefully placed to balance the dual demands of the golfer and the environment, with indigenous planting throughout creating a beautiful backdrop and some challenging obstacles.

The golf course requires careful thought along the 5862 metres (6411) yards from the back tees and requires a deft touch on the short game.

Bunkers guard most greens while the greens themselves are large and undulating, demanding a soft hand with the putter. Espiche Golf Course is a shot-maker’s course, where each hole poses a new challenge thanks to the variety of the layout.

Golfers are pushed to take risks with their game at Espiche Golf Course, with rich rewards for those who make the most of their golfing skills and who best judge the course.

Located on a hilltop in the middle of the property, the stunning clubhouse, which has won a number of architectural awards, is built on the site of an old farmhouse, with stone from the original building used in the lower walls to preserve a little of the local identity. It’s a fabulous contemporary building, designed by Nadine Berger, which offers sensational views across the entire course from the top floor.

Perched high above the golden sands and blue water of the Atlantic Ocean, between Vilamoura and Albufeira, lies the immaculate Pine Cliffs Golf Course. Architect Martin Hawtree’s main concern was to keep the natural surroundings as it was before the course was built.

This pretty 9-hole Pine Cliffs hotel course opened in 1991 and it’s one of Portugal’s most original golfing layouts, with fairways routed through a delightful pine forest that sits on cliff tops along the Algarve coastline.

At 2,450 yards from the back tees, Pine Trees is not long – only a couple of its par four holes measure more than 350 yards – yet it presents an engaging round for the many holiday golfers who play here.

The 434-yard 5th is a tough proposition to play here when the wind is up along the edge of the cliffs and it’s followed by the feature hole on the card, the par three “Devil’s Parlour,” where the tee shot must fly all the way to a green that lies 200 yards across an intimidating jagged precipice that drops down sharply to the beach below.

Pine Cliffs is perfect if you want a quick game, or you can play it twice for a thoroughly enjoyable 18 holes.
