Our guests often search for something uniquely Azorean to take home with them. This is a lovely example of a traditional basket weaving Azorean art form that was given a contemporary touch in order to create decorative hearts.

"Do que gostei? TUDO! O apartamento é muito bonito, muito espaçoso, muito luminoso e não sei o que mais - muito! Muito romântico. toda parede de vidro no quarto e hall com vista para o mar, um agradável terraço equipado com mesa para comer e banco para passar a noite lá..
Apartamento decorado com bom gosto, não falta absolutamente nada (há também uma máquina de lavar loiça e máquina de lavar roupa que não foram indicadas, penso eu) nem na cozinha - pratos e copos de todo o tipo e vários equipamentos que podem ser usados e não, sal, açúcar e óleo para nomear algo mas na realidade há realmente tudo - nem na casa de banho, realmente só precisa da sua escova e pasta de dentes!
A pedido também vêm e limpam, assim como num hotel."

We want to expose the foreigners that stay at our vacation home to bits of Azorean culture and history, so people can experience a little of the place they're visiting even when relaxing indoors. Here are a few tidbits of decor we've chosen to adorn our holiday apartment, with more to come very soon.

The patchwork decorating one of our guest rooms is very traditional here in the Azores. It was common for Azoreans that immigrated to send gently used clothing back to family in barrels. When ready to retire an article of clothing, it often times became part of the collection of fabric to create many types of patchwork. The framed patchwork in this bedroom is a tribute to my grandmother who used to up-cycle lots of unwanted clothes into beautiful quilts. No clothes ended up in the landfill on her watch.

Came to our vacation rental to add some fresh touches to our decor! Now I get to watch the sunrise while lying in bed and then take a few steps to sit on the veranda, enjoy a cup of coffee and finish the show nature has to offer our guests. (no filters)
