The first day of SEI - Week about Invasive Species - was full of work, information and creativity.

Thank you very much Catarina Afonso for guiding our group through the history of invasise species in Portugal, their impacts and how we've been tackling the many issues they originate.

And thank you Ap Silvestre - Collage for a wonderful workshop that included producing paper out of the bark of acacia trees and collage.

Next Sunday (May 31) join us for a new session of debarking mimosas in Gerês.

This Saturday, join us for some 'Acacia dealbata' debarking in the morning and/or a creative workshop based on the bark of these trees.

During the morning, biologist Catarina Afonso will be with us, sharing information about the impacts of this invasive plant, better known as Mimosa, and explaining how to fight it.

In the afternoon, artist Ap Silvestre - Collage will share the technique she developed for making artisanal paper out the leftover bark and guide the creation of a collage piece.

In our only National Park, this exotic plant is spreading rapidly, jeopardizing native flora and, consequently, the fauna.

All help is important to limit the progress of Mimosas!

In the Roman world, today - February 28th - marked the beginning of Floralia, the festivities in honor of Flora, over the agrarian cicle, fertility and the start of Spring.

🌸📅 No mundo romano, o dia 28 de abril marcava o início das 𝐹𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑎, festividades dedicadas à deusa Flora, ligada ao ciclo agrário, à fertilidade e à chegada da Primavera.

📸 Na imagem, mostramos uma placa em terracota da Doação Bühler Brockhaus ao Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa, datada de finais do séc. I a.C. a inícios do séc. I d.C.
