Medieval Romania:
Central Romania encompasses what is popularly known as Transylvania – a place that immediately brings to mind the legend of Count Dracula. While the legend is certainly intriguing and a genuine tourist attraction, the region has much more to offer. Some of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns, most notably Sighisoara, Brasov and Sibiu, are located here.
Visitors can marvel at Transylvania's unique architectural treasures, such as castles, fortified churches and centuries-old houses, while exploring sites where more than 900 years ago Saxon craftsmen and merchants established powerful and rich citadels.
During the middle of the 12th century Saxons came to the area from the Luxembourg, Lorraine, Moselle, Rhine and Wallonia regions of northwestern Europe. They called their new home 'Siebenburgen' (Seven Fortresses - in Latin Septem Castra) after the seven major walled towns they built here:
Bistrita (Bistritz)
Sebes (Mühlbach)
Brasov (Kronstadt)
Sibiu (Hermannstadt)
Cluj Napoca (Klausenburg)
Sighisoara (Schassburg)
Medias (Mediasch)

The Hoia-Baciu Forest

http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20121203-worlds-most-haunted-forests

The Hoia-Baciu Forest ( World’s Most Haunted Forest ) is situated near Cluj-Napoca, Romania covers an area of over 250 hectares and is often referred to as the Bermuda Triangle of the country. Hoia Baciu Forest ( World’s Most Haunted Forest ), has a reputation for intense paranormal activity and unexplained events. Reports have included, ghost sightings, unexplained apparitions, faces appearing in photographs that were not visible with the naked eye, and in the 1970s, UFO sightings were reported.
Visitors to the forest often report intense feelings of anxiety and the feeling of being constantly watched. Moreover, the local vegetation is somehow bizarre in appearance, like something out of a make-believe story with strangely shaped trees, and unexplained charring on tree stumps and branches.

Romania - The Carpathian Garden!
The Carpathian Mountains cover over a third of the coutry’s territory and are forming a semi-circle around Transylvania, which one of Romania’s nine historical provinces.
Romanian Carpathian Mountainsare divided into three groups: Eastern Carpathians, Southern Carpathians and Western Carpathians. The Western Carpathian Mountains are also called the Mountains of the Sunset (Muntii Apuseni). The highest peaks are in the Southern Carpathians – Moldoveanu (2544 m/8,346 feet) and Negoiu (2535 m/8,316 feet).
In Romania’s many national parks, nature parks and reservations, you can see so many specimens protected by the law at European and international level you might be in a botanical museum.
Romanians are famous for their hospitality in the welcome they extend to their guests. You’ll be delighted both by the welcome you receive from your hosts and the traditional food, not to mention the wide range of sporting activities you can choose from.

Dracula Festival 2015
Organised by Romanian Treasures in parnership and with full support from Dacre Stocker, The Corvin Castle and all the sponsors and parners involved!
We had the pleasure to have 11.000 visitors during our festival.

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/news/2015/04/08/romania-to-host-dracula-festival-in-early-may/

Dracula Festival, aims to promote Romanian traditions while merging myth with reality in a medieval atmosphere sprinkled with history and legends, presented in a unique antithesis between the life of the great Ruler Vlad Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) and the legend behind Count Dracula.
We had the honor to hear a presentation by Dacre Stoker author and great grand nephew of Bram Stoker, about the mysteries behind the writing of the novel Dracula and the research and story of the writing of the bestseller, Dracula the Un-Dead. “A good story it is. The action is swift and thrilling, the villain is not whom you’d expect but is evil and powerful nonetheless… a fine book in it’s own right, one that pushes the story in unexpected directions while remaining true to the dark heart of the Transylvanian vampire-king”. Los Angles Times 2010
We ended the first day of the festival with an impressive medieval ball with music, dance, waltz, violin concert, fakirs and fire shows where medieval attire was required.
To enter even more into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, on the second day of the festival we organised medieval tournaments and competitions, horse riding, archery, knights, battles simulations and sword lessons. The festival gathered royal families, distinguished nobles, the bravest knights and most beautiful ladies. Rumor have said already that this was the biggest festival in the kingdom.

The Beatiful Land of Dracula and Medieval Historical Cities

Sibiu - The Cultural Capital of Europe in 2007.
The first official record referring to the Sibiu area comes from 1191, when Pope Celestine III confirmed the existence of the free prepositure of the German settlers in Transylvania, the prepositure having its headquarters in Sibiu, named Cibinium at that time (where the name of the Cibin River comes from).

The city of Sibiu and its surroundings are one of the most visited areas in Romania. It holds one of the best preserved historical sites in the country, many of its medieval fortifications having been kept in excellent state. Its old center has begun the process for becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. Sibiu and its surrounding area have many significant museums, with 12 institutions housing art collections, paintings, and exhibits in decorative arts, archeology, anthropology, history, industrial archeology and history of technology and natural sciences.
