𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭

The name of the waterfall comes from a legend in which it is said that a horse herd sprouted by bears was thrown into the abyss. The richness of the pastures of those places attracted the sheep and the horses, and after this incident the shepherds would have shed the tears that gave birth to the Horse Waterfall. Even the mountain got its name, as did the stream that descends to the valley.

The waterfall can be seen from a distance and you immediately realize its size. The waterfall is 90 meters high. The water gathered in a glacial circus flows over a steep limestone, called the Horse Bridge, in several stages, resulting in the largest waterfall in Romania!

Lovers of the mountain and adventure can climb right through the Canyon of the Horses to admire the first waterfalls that descend rapidly into the valley, eventually turning into the Waterfall of the Horses, considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Romania.
The best time to visit the waterfall is in the spring, as the water flow increases and its fall becomes spectacular.

The Salhoi-Zambroslavia Reservation is a mixed reservation (geological and borane), where you can find a very rare plant in Romania: Cochlearia pyrenaica.

The Piatră Rea reservation covers 17 hectares and is very rich in rare flora and fauna. In this reservation is the Horse Waterfall, at 1300 m altitude, being the highest waterfall in Romania.
The Cornu Nedeii - Ciungii Balasinii Reservation is famous for the juniper and the largest birch rooster population in the country, a species protected by law.

The reserve for the protection of the woodpecker (a very common species in the Danube basin) can be found on the watercourses of the Vaser, from the Cozia forest canton to Vişeu.

𝐌𝐨𝐜𝐚̆𝐧𝐢𝐭̧𝐚 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐕𝐢𝐬̧𝐞𝐮 𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐬!

Named often the "Vaserului Valley Mocăniţa", the Forest Railway from Vişeu de Above, located right in the north of Romania, on the border with Ukraine, is a wealth both technically and culturally. At a distance of almost 60 kilometers to this day - in addition to diesel locomotives - steam locomotives, powered by wood.

Starting with 2007, Valea Vaserului became part of the Maramureş Mountains Natural Park, under European protection.
The main reasons for the designation were: the specific landscape with forested mountains and mountain meadows in a charming alternation, the presence of the emblematic flora and fauna for the Carpathians in still stable ecosystems, the existence of natural habitats over large areas and also a way of traditional life, directly dependent on natural resources.

Currently, the railway on the Vaser Valley is used for both tourist and forestry purposes for timber transport. Dual use makes this line the last active and functional forest railway in Europe. Thus, the Mocăniţa on the Vaser Valley enjoys an increasing number of visitors, becoming the main tourist attraction in Maramureş and one of the biggest attractions in the country.

In addition to the transport services comes the train-hotel "Carpatia-Express" which is an original way of accommodation for those who love railways or those who want to live a special experience. The line located inside the Vişeu de Sus railway station consists of a steam locomotive, a restaurant car and two sleeping cars produced in DDR for the railways in the former Czechoslovakia.

𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲'𝘀 𝗩𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹

Vălul Miresei Waterfall is also known as Răchiţele Waterfall. The superb tourist objective is located on Valea Stânciului, in the area of Răchitele locality from Mărgău commune, in Cluj county. The waterfall is at a distance of 6 km from Răchiţele.

The legend of the place says that in the past, a bride fell from the steep rocks in the area where the waterfall is, and her veil remained hanging on the rocks. Shocked by the tragic accident, the bride and groom stopped in the area and began to cry for days on end until a waterfall formed.

In reality, the name could be attributed to the shape of the waterfall that resembled a veil. Another interesting thing less known about the inhabitants of Mărgău commune is the fact that they have their own language known as the Gomoțasca or Gumuțasca language.

The windows in the area, being famous in the past, invented a language that could be understood only by the inhabitants of the surroundings, and now this language is known to be the only rural slang in Romania.

Over the years, the profession of glazing was no longer practiced, and with the disappearance of this craft, the language was lost. Currently there are only a few families who can speak it.

The bastion fortress in Alba Iulia has become in recent years the most important attraction of the city and one of the most famous in Romania. The construction of such a fortification required enormous efforts, both humanly and financially. November 5, 2015 marks exactly 300 years since the foundation stone of the Citadel was laid.

The fortress of Alba Iulia is the largest and most valuable bastion fortification in south-eastern Europe and was built in the first half of the 18th century. The project after which it was erected belongs mostly to the military engineer Giovani Morando Visconti.

Of the seven gates of the Citadel, the most impressive in size and arrangement is the third gate, the triumphal entrance gate to the upper precincts of the citadel called the Upper Carolina Gate. It was designed in the form of a triumphal arch, with four pillars and eight pillars supporting the vaults and arches of the three entrances.

On the outer side the gate is decorated with four groups of statues. The crown is made up of the stone equestrian statue of Emperor Charles VI of Austria during which the fortress was built, as the victor of the Turks, trampling on Turkish horse-tied prisoners symbolizing his victories over the Ottoman Empire, and below there is a bunch of Turkish trophies.

The fortification was built of materials made in the area, and the raw work was performed by over 20,000 Romanian serfs brought from all over Transylvania, forced to perform free labor in two-week series. Italian masonry and stonemasonry were used for masonry and stonemasonry, and special sculptures at the city gates and bastions were carried out by a team from Vienna, led by sculptor Johann König.

Lake Sfanta Ana is a volcanic lake, being the only such lake in the entire territory of Romania.

It is located on the territory of Harghita county, in the Ciomatu massif, on the left bank of the Olt River, near the Tusnad Baths.
The lake is located at the bottom of the crater of an extinct volcano, called Ciomatu, in the Puciosu volcanic massif, the site of the most recent volcanic eruption in the Carpathians and Eastern Europe, which took place tens of thousands of years ago.

Lake Sfanta Ana is a complex natural, geological, floristic and faunal reservation, being connected to Baile Tusnad by tourist trails.Lake Sfanta Ana has an almost circular shape, similar to a painter's palette.

The lake completes its waters only from precipitation, having no springs.There is no oxygen in the water, which is why no living thing lives in it.

The age of Lake Sfanta Ana has not yet been determined exactly, palynological studies have concluded that the history of Lake Sfanta Ana began about 9800 - 8800 years ago, with the stage of peat bog and shallow lake.

Lake Sf. Ana is fed exclusively by precipitation, the degree of mineralization of the water being for this reason extremely low.
In winter, the lake is covered with a layer of ice up to 1 m.Near the lake there is a Roman Catholic chapel dedicated to Saint Anne.

Tourists coming to Lake Sfanta Ana do not need meteorologists' forecasts to find out what the weather will be like, as they have at hand an empirical but exact method offered by the volcanic mountain: the two cracks formed in the mountains that predict the weather.

The locals know that "If the emanations from the cracks bite your nose, then it is a sign of a storm, and if not, the day will be sunny, just right for hiking."

The lands of Banat Montan amaze with the wild beauty of the Cheile Nerei - Beușnița National Park. It is located in the South - West of Romania, in Caraş - Severin County. With an area of 36758 ha, the protected area is managed mainly for ecosystem protection and recreation (IUCN category II).

Crossing the Park, the Nera River digs in Jurassic limestone the longest gorges in Romania (almost 23km). Here, some rare, tertiary relic species, such as Amphimelania holandri (Mollusca) and Cobitis elongata (Pisces), find refuge in the Sava and Drava rivers in Serbia.
The Nera Gorges, together with the numerous petrifying travertine springs that give rise to impressive waterfalls and wonderful natural lakes, are the charm of this area.

The park includes the karst area on the middle course of the Nera River and includes objectives such as the Devil's Lake, the famous Beușnița waterfalls, Ochiul Beului Lake, Bigăr Waterfall, Șușara Waterfall and Moceriș Waterfall.

The area is very generous in terms of tourism and sports activities which include: kayaking, canoeing, zip-lining, horse riding, hiking and cycling. Hiking in this area is fairly light, with small differences in altitude from the beginning to the end of each route.

To admire the wild beauties of this area you can do a 9-10 hour route, if you feel ready enough. You leave Sopotu Nou and reach Sasca Montană, or vice versa. Rafting can be done at the beginning of summer, which is an unmissable experience if you arrive here in the warm season.

𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞

Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni, of great architectural, historical, documentary and artistic value, was built in 1911 at the request of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, former Minister of Romania between 1899-1900, 1904-1907.

The building was made of stone and brick according to the plans of the architect Grigore Cerchez and covers an area of 3148 square meters.

The architecture of the castle is special and the surroundings are spectacular, offering a great opportunity for a leisurely walk through culture and history.

The positioning of this castle is excellent, the entrance to the domain being a luxury one, with a wrought iron gate that takes you to an alley with tall fir trees, giving you the feeling that you are on a boyar estate.

The view you have around the castle is simply wonderful. Artesian fountains, the artificial cave and the Caraiman Peak from the Bucegi Mountains with the Cross of Heroes that can be seen in the distance certainly convince you that you are in a chosen, ideal place.

The castle, the sculpture park and the terrace, with their amazing view, attract over 200,000 visitors every year. Cantacuzino Castle is also home to a museum, an art gallery, a gift shop and a fine restaurant called Canta Cuisine.

Cantacuzino Castle and its grounds can also be booked for private events throughout the year. So far, only two accommodations are available in the castle.

𝗩𝗢𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗧 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗬

In the center of a village located at the foot of the Carpathians, on the sober green background of the pine forest, stands a simple church with exterior walls decorated in frescoes - Voroneț Monastery. The building looks like a wide open lighted evangelist.

This is what the anonymous painters and those who commissioned these paintings wanted for a long time: the walls upholstered with frescoes were to represent to the eyes of the beholders the teaching of Scripture. And so it is today presented to visitors from all over the world excited to discover, in the midst of a harmonious nature, an even more harmonious edifice, erected for more than 500 years by inspired hands expressing their faith and lyricism in stone and color.

The church of Voroneţ Monastery is the foundation of the glorious voivode Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt built in 1488 in only three months and three weeks (from May 26 to September 14).

Beyond the architecture and painting with the above mentioned values, the Holy Voroneţ Monastery preserves a richness of medieval art: the funerary slabs of the tombs in the narthex and porch with decorative motifs of special artistic value, the chair and the pews that bring ornaments of different ingeniously combined styles and impresses with the discretion with which they fit into the interior of the architecture without disturbing the space or competing with the wall decoration.

True masterpieces of wood carving are in the temple of the Altar. To these must be added many other pieces that can be found in various collections and museums: epitaphs, large embroideries and the gift given by Metropolitan Gregory the Red Voroneţ Monastery.
Characteristic of Voroneţ is not only the nature of the blue pigment, the so-called “Voroneţ Blue”, but especially its resistance in very harsh climatic conditions, which is due to the originality of the work technique applied by Moldovan painters.

Surprisingly, the painting also includes the 12 zodiac signs in the immediate vicinity of the Savior.
It was included in the 1993 UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Beuşniţa Waterfall is a unique phenomenon, a true monument of nature and an objective of significant tourist, geological and landscape value.

The waterfall is located on the river Bei, upstream of Lake Ochiul Beiului and actually includes several mini waterfalls. It is 15 m long, and on clear days, when the sun's rays pass through the swirling waters of the river, the waterfall seems to be surrounded by dozens of rainbows. It looks like a waterfall on a tropical island, as you only see in movies.

The water falls over the rocks, through the pillows of the muscles, like a translucent canvas and covers the small caves that can be seen behind the streams of water. When the flow is high, especially in the spring, the sound effect is amazing.

They originated from the action of water for millennia in the limestone substrate. The dissolved limestone was deposited layer by layer along the course of the river, forming calcareous tuff, soft and permeable rock that allowed the modeling of countless shapes, mini-dams, water holes and successive waterfalls.

Because the waters fall into narrow underground channels, their noise is very loud and intensifies when the rains fall over the forest and stream. It is not the height of the waterfalls that will impress you, but the whirlpools that form when the water enters under the rocks with unknown corridors.

Viscri is a small village, the population does not exceed several hundred inhabitants, but annually attracts tens of thousands of tourists, being one of the most beautiful Saxon villages in Transylvania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As soon as you take the first step here, you feel like you are in a huge open-air museum. Each house tells a story, every local greets you with a smile on his face, and the geese running down the streets complete the picturesque picture.

The construction of the fortified church in Viscri was started by the Szeklers in the 1100s, the inscriptions of the tombstones in the cemetery surrounding the church attesting to this fact. In 1185 the Saxons colonized the church, the Szeklers being forced to leave the village and settle in southeastern Transylvania.

The church also gave the name of the town, being one of the most impressive churches in Transylvania. The first towers were added to the church around 1525. In the 18th century, a second defensive wall was built as well as a covered corridor for storing corn.

From one of the towers of the fortification you climb a very narrow corridor, followed by several wooden stairs and you can admire the panorama of the village, with hills and meadows, as well as the authentic roofs of houses and huts.

Prince Charles first arrived in Transylvania in the spring of 1998. One visit was enough to make him fall in love with this part of the country.

In 2006, the Prince of Wales bought the first country house in the village of Viscri, with the clear aim of encouraging others to join in the effort to save the medieval architectural heritage of southern Transylvania.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐭̧𝐞𝐠

Only 4 kilometers from the city of Hațeg is the beautiful Silvuţ-Haţeg Bison Reserve, named after the forest and the county in which it is located. It was founded in 1958, when two bison named Podarec and Polonka were brought to Romania from Poland. Today, the reservation hosts 6 bison, according to some internet sources, although their number has reached 23 at one point.

The reserve is a forest of 50 acres, containing hornbeam, oak and fir. The bison reserve in Haţeg is the first place in Romania where bison have appeared again. After the first two specimens were brought in 1958, another one called Pumila was brought, a year later, also from Poland. In just two years, the bison from Haţeg mated, and the reservation came to have 12 specimens. Those who were born in Romania, received names that start with "Ro".

Over the years, a total of 47 puppies have been born at the Silvuţ-Haţeg Reservation, but some of them have been sent to other parts of the country where the reservations were founded. Today, there are only about 3,000 bison left in the world. There was a time when they occupied large areas of Europe and Asia, but because of poaching they became extinct.

The species that can be found in Europe today is a hybrid between the Caucasian bison and the plain bison. A Caucasian bison was captured in 1908 and taken to Germany, where he lived for 18 years in captivity. There, it mated with the plains females and produced the bison species known today as European bison.

Banffy Castle from Bonțida is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cluj. In recent years, the place has become famous thanks to the Electric Castle music festival, organized annually since 2013.

The Banffy Castle was known as the Versailles of Transylvania because it is an entire architectural ensemble built by a family named Banffy, from the commune of Bonțida, Cluj County. Initially, the castle was built in a Renaissance style, and subsequent changes in the 18th century were made in the Baroque style and in the 19th century, in the Romantic style.

The whole estate of Bonțida came into the possession of the Banffy family in 1387, when King Sigismund of Luxembourg donated it to Dionysius, son of Thomas Losonci. Until the current ensemble in Bonțida was built, it was a noble residence / mansion, which was documented after 1640.

During World War II, the castle was used as a military hospital, and in 1944 it was severely damaged, when retreating German troops looted, attacked and set fire to the entire ensemble. The furniture was completely destroyed, as well as the well-known portrait gallery and library.

The thing that attracts even more tourists is the legend that the castle was haunted. The princess who lived in the castle had a relationship with someone outside. When she was seen sneaking by one of the high school boys so as not to be exposed, she seduced the stableman and then killed him with a knife. Even today, legend has it that the ghost of the young man haunts the castle.

Prince Charles of Wales has been captivated by the architecture of the castle and wants to restore it, being convinced that once rehabilitated the castle will become a real tourist attraction.
