The inedite monuments in this cemetery are in fact wooden croses in a unique explosion of bright colours. Made of oak wood, the croses in this cemetewry are painted in chherful colours and have folk rhimes carved into wood imortalising the deceased’s life, ocupation and family problems. Epitaphs are written in a first-person and are ironical or humorous, often depicting the deceased’s life in anecdots- this explaining in a certain measure the name: The Merry Cemetery. Here is an exaple of funny epithaf:
Under this heavy cross
Lays my poor mother in-law
Three more days she would have lived
I would lay, and she would read (this cross).
You, who here are passing by
Not to wake her up please try
Cause' if she comes back home
She'll criticise me more.
But I'll behave so well
That she'll not return from hell.
Stay here, my dear mother in-law!

Rogoz Wooden Church is one of the eight churches that are on UNESCO List of World Heritage. Located in the “country” of Lapus, the church was built in 1663 by the villagers on the site of a former church. The mural paintings on the inside add value to this monumental church.
