Tonight in Romania, light means more than light.
On the night of the Resurrection, churches and cemeteries fill with candles, silence, prayer, and people standing close to one another. Just before midnight, Orthodox Christians receive the holy light from the priest and pass it from candle to candle, until entire communities are glowing in the dark.
It is one of the most powerful moments of the year.
A moment of faith, but also of memory.
In many places, cemeteries become seas of light, reminding us how strong the connection remains between the living and those who are no longer with us.
If you want to understand Romania beyond landscapes and monuments, this is one of those moments that says everything.
