A journey through Romania, one trail at a time.

For our travelers, this 14-day private journey was not simply about visiting Romania’s highlights, but about experiencing the country at their own pace - walking through its landscapes, meeting its history up close, and spending time in places that are often missed on a faster itinerary.

After discovering Bucharest and heading into the Carpathians, their journey became increasingly active. They hiked among the dramatic limestone ridges of Piatra Craiului, before continuing into rural Transylvania, where the scenery changed completely: rolling hills, forests, meadows and centuries-old Saxon villages.

From Viscri, they followed sections of the Via Transilvanica, crossing the peaceful countryside on foot and experiencing a much slower side of Romania. Along the way came fortified churches, traditional villages and places such as Biertan, where history still feels very much part of the landscape.

And towards the end of the journey, the scenery became more dramatic again. In the Fagaras Mountains, they hiked above Balea Lake, surrounded by some of the highest and most impressive peaks in Romania - a fitting finale to a trip that combined culture, history and several memorable days on the trails.

What we especially love about these photos is that they show the journey as it really happened: not just the places, but our travelers moving through them, stopping to take in the views, following the trails and discovering Romania step by step.

Special thanks to our guide Marcel for guiding them along the way!

Romania wears autumn beautifully.

Mountain roads turn golden, castles sit among forests of copper and amber, and the villages of Transylvania begin to feel even slower, warmer and more atmospheric.

It is one of the most beautiful seasons to travel through Romania, especially for travellers who love scenic routes, countryside stays, castles, photography and time outdoors. Autumn gives the journey a softer rhythm, with quieter roads, rich colours and landscapes that feel made for slow discovery.

Plan your autumn adventure in Romania with Rolandia Bespoke now.

Why would you go to Romania?

Because Romania has a way of revealing itself slowly. It invites travellers to look closer, stay longer, and notice the moments that often become the most memorable part of the journey.

Romania works beautifully for travellers who want more than a checklist. It is a destination for those who value atmosphere, local connection, landscapes, history and experiences designed around the way they like to travel.

This is the kind of Romania we like to share at Rolandia Bespoke: the balance between beauty, culture, local life and the small details that make a journey feel personal.

In bespoke travel, transportation is not always just logistics.

Sometimes, the way travellers move through a destination can become part of the experience itself.

A helicopter ride can offer a completely different perspective over Romania’s landscapes. A guided bike tour can slow the journey down, bringing travellers closer to forests, villages, countryside roads and local scenery.

For Rolandia Bespoke, private travel is not only about where travellers go, but also about how they experience each place along the way.

Depending on the itinerary, interests and pace of each client, transportation can be practical, scenic, active, memorable - or all of these at once.

This is why we design journeys around the full travel experience, from the route and accommodation to the guides, local encounters and the way travellers move through the destination.

Romania is often known for its castles, medieval towns and traditions, but some of its most memorable journeys are shaped by nature.

From the dramatic peaks of the Carpathian Mountains to the winding road of the Transfagarasan, the wetlands of the Danube Delta and the unusual landscape of the Mud Volcanoes, Romania offers remarkable variety within a single destination.

These are not only beautiful places to visit. They can become the foundation of a journey: for travellers who love photography, scenic drives, wildlife, hiking, slow travel or simply time spent in landscapes that still feel wild and personal.

At Rolandia Bespoke, we design private itineraries that connect Romania’s natural landmarks with local culture, authentic experiences and a pace shaped around each traveller.

These photographs were taken by our tour guides during recent tours across the country, capturing some of the moments that make each journey different: wildlife in the Carpathians, Bran Castle, alpine landscapes, local traditions, rural experiences and crafts that are still practised today.

Our guides do more than lead the way between landmarks. They recognise the moments worth stopping for, introduce travellers to the people behind the places and help connect each experience with the wider story of Romania.

As Alannah, one of our recent travellers from Australia, shared:

“Had a fantastic trip, with lovely people and a brilliant guide! One of my favourite trips I have been on in a while.”

A journey through Romania with Rolandia Bespoke is not only about the places included in the itinerary, but also about what happens along the way.

Today, Romania celebrates both Sânziene and the Day of the Romanian Blouse, known as the ie.

More than a traditional garment, the ie reflects regional identity through its embroidery, colours and motifs. Different regions, and sometimes even neighbouring villages, developed their own styles, making each authentic blouse part of Romania’s cultural map.

Traditionally handmade from linen, h**p or cotton, the ie often carries symbols inspired by nature, local beliefs and family traditions. In 2022, the art of the traditional blouse with embroidery on the shoulder was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Today, the ie remains a living tradition, worn, preserved and passed from one generation to the next.

This June, we welcomed 10 travel advisors from the United States for the Rolandia Bespoke FAM Trip.

The journey brought together some of the experiences we believe make Romania so compelling for bespoke travel: Bran Castle by night, traditional egg painting, the medieval streets of Sighisoara, a cooking class with local flavours, w**e-tasting, cycling through Transylvanian villages, a visit to Roma blacksmiths who continue a craft passed down through generations and several other moments designed to reveal Romania beyond the expected.

More than a tour, it was a way to experience Romania through its people, landscapes, traditions and stories.

To the advisors who joined us, thank you for your curiosity, openness and trust.
To our guides, hosts and local partners, thank you for bringing each moment to life with generosity, knowledge and care.

The authenticity of Romania is not something we can create alone, it comes from the people who welcome our travellers into their homes and stories.

This is the Romania we love sharing through Rolandia Bespoke: personal, human, rooted in place, and shaped by real encounters.

What kind of traveller are you?

Some people travel for architecture and history. Others look for wildlife, mountain trails, local culture, w**e, city life or time in the countryside.

Romania brings all of these together within one destination, but the right journey will look different for every traveller.

This is where bespoke travel becomes relevant. The aim is not to include everything Romania has to offer, but to identify the regions, pace and experiences that match the person travelling.

Summer in Romania is one of the best seasons to understand the country’s diversity as a travel destination.

But summer here is not only about the season. It is the smell of grass and wheat, the sound of birds over the water, long days spent outdoors, mountain air after rain, and villages where time seems to move at a different pace.

For many of us, these are childhood memories.

For travellers, they become something just as meaningful: moments of quiet, beauty and connection - with nature, with heritage, and with a slow rhythm of life that is still present in many parts of Romania.

This is the Romania we enjoy sharing in our journeys through the experiences we offer: not only the places themselves, but the feeling behind them.

A Romania of nature, memory, local life and quiet discovery.
