In the late 19th century, King Carol I chose the forests of Sinaia as the site for a new royal residence, giving rise to what would become Peleș Castle, the Carpathian Pearl.

In 1873, builders and craftsmen from across Europe started bringing that vision to life.
As the castle grew, it became one of the most modern residences of its time, filled with beautiful art, carved wood, and even electric lighting.

Rather than being a medieval fortress built for war, Peleș Castle tells a story of vision, artistry, and national ambition—a fairy-tale palace nestled among the mountains that reflects Romania's royal heritage and enduring cultural legacy.

This is Queen Elisabeth of Romania—known to the literary world as Carmen Sylva, an incredibly prolific author, publishing over 1.000 poems, 90 short stories, 30 plays, and 4 novels in multiple languages such as German, French, English, and Romanian.

And that contrast is exactly what makes her story so captivating. While her husband, King Carol I, was building a nation with an iron will, Elisabeth was giving that same nation its artistic soul.
