Satra Mountain, the Holy Mountain of Maramures is famous in the area for it's miraculous springs, legends with outlaws and caves full of treasures. Some believe that it's shape, the trunk of a pyramid, is not a natural one and that it has been built by angels, especially since it is the same in every part you look at it. However, geologists confirm that it is a geological formation of volcanic origin. According to local legends on Satra Mountain the famous outlaw Pintea Viteazul and his orchards lived. Son of a nobleman, Pintea Viteazul revolts against domination and fights for the rights of ordinary people in Maramures.
On Satra Mountain the name of the outlaw bears both The Spring of Pintea and The Fountain of Pintea, next to the first one rises the Satra Monastery, and next to the fountain, the Hermitage Satra.
Pintea's spring is just one of the springs with healing powers on the mountain. Every stream of water that descends on the slopes of the mountain has beneficent powers. About Pintea's Fountain it is said that on certain days of the year "water became like butter" and that then it had the power to cure any disease.
The treasures gathered by Pintea and his outlaws would be hidden in a cave in the heart of the mountain. Pintea's cave opens only on the night of the Resurrection and the one who enters it can only leave in a year.

The wood has accompanied the inhabitants of Lapus Land over time. From wooden churches with towers raised to the sky to various handicrafts, they have tamed it and turned it into wonderful objects of folk and contemporary art that can be admired and purchased from local craftsmen and artists.

Alexandru Perta Cuza is a living legend of the popular craftsmen from Maramureş. He doesn't consider himself a sculptor he just gives life to the wood and lets it speak. More than 4,000 of his works are scattered throughout Europe. The style he approaches in sculpture is said to be naive. He "lets the wood speak in its place" and does not strive to do perfect works, but expressive ones.
