Maslenitsa in Russia (Feb 24 - Mar 1)
Save this post not to forget!📑

Maslenitsa, or a Pancake Week, is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, that is, the eighth week before Eastern Orthodox Pascha (Easter)🧺

Since Lent excludes parties, secular music, dancing and other distractions from spiritual life, Maslenitsa represents the last chance to take part in social activities💃😜

During this week we eat pancakes, dance, sing, participate in contests and burn the effigy of Maslenitsa on Sunday. It symbolizes farewell to winter and spring greeting👋🌸

Why pancakes?
In pre-Christian pagan times pancake was a symbol of a sun☀️ in Russia

Where to celebrate?

1. Manezhnaya square: there you can try ritual baking, eat pancakes with all kinds of fillings, participate in dancing and take really nice pictures📸

2. Kolomenskoye park: roundelays, ditties, folk songs, and on Sunday - a huge effigy burning at the main field in front of the Ascension church

3. Gorky park - all the same celebrations

4. Tsarytsyno park - also performances, pancakes, effigy burning

5. Zaryadye park - a small zone close by the St.Basil's cathedral, to try pancakes with caviar and take a spectacular picture of the cathedral

Which means celebration in Russia just started😁 From Dec 13 to Jan 12 there is a beautiful festival "Journey to Christmas" in Moscow, taking place on 40 venues❄️☃️ Here are the most interesting places to see during this time:

✔️Red square
Ice rink, christmas market, stunning illumination of GUM and Nikolskaya street - what a fairy tale!

✔️Manezhnaya square
Next to the Red Square is located another fair with European and Russian crafts and traditional food

✔️Ice theatre

✔️Trees galore
Trees at the Kuznetskiy most street are decorated by the best Russian designers, and this is a great place for shopping and wandering around
