✅ Try scallops. There’re many ways to cook them: baked in a dish with butter and herbs, in a creamy sauce, bakes with wine, and many more.

✅ Another delicacy is king crab. Interestingly, in the early 1960s, king crab was brought to the Barents Sea from the Far East to see if it would populate local waters. The experiment was a success, and besides, they did not have natural enemies here. Thus, the crab has become an integral part of the Arctic cuisine.

✅ Aspecial delicacy is sea urchin caviar. We haven’t tried it but they say it is very healthy. You may taste it in come cafes in the region. For those who go sea fishing, for example, off the coast of Teriberka, sea urchins will be taken directly to the deck of the ship.

✅ Another popular traditional dish in the Russian North is venison. Only here you can find pizza, burgers, dumplings and other dishes with venison, as well as snacks in the form of dried venison and smoked sausages. It is especially worth trying it with northern berry sauce - very tasty!

✅ Taste local fish soup. It can be creamy, with fresh green leaves, cloudberries, prepared according to the best recipes of the brand chef with a variety of seafood, or it can be very simple with one type of fish.

What food did you like the most? When we went to Kola Peninsula we were so busy with tours and Northern Light Hunting, that we had time to enjoy only one cool restaurant. It was Tundra. But it was surely a great choice.

Did you know that some Moscow museums offer free admission every third week of the month, one museum on one day of the week?

You’ll need to get a free e-ticket in advance on the official website of the museum or on the mos.ru

Most museums still require a QR code or a negative PCR test result. In some cases, it’s enough to take an express test in GUM or in any other Express COVID-19 Testing Center.

Are you a contemporary art lover? The recently opened GES-2 art center is an exciting venue to explore.

The old power plant was recently renovated by Renzo Piano Building Workshop to become a vibrant art space. Commissioned by the V-A-C Foundation by billionaire Leonid Mikhelson GES-2 is not a museum in the usual sense, but a part of the city where visitors themselves become part of the creative art process.

What to do in GES-2?

✅ Wander around the airy space of the building. Enjoy its original architecture and design. If you are familiar with the Pompidou Center (Paris), you will recognize the work of the architect Piano in the industrial interior of the cultural cente.

✅ Visit a large library with unique books on art, architecture and design.

✅ Watch numerous art installations, films, performances. If you need help on interpreting the contemporary art you may join a group tour conducted by the art center. You need to sign up in advance but the admission is free. On certain dates they conduct tours in English.

✅ On the ground floor there is an open workshop and a playground "Atelier". There are several areas for classes with clay, wood, paper and fabric. If you come on Fri, Sat or Sun from 12.00 – 17.00 local experts can teach young visitors how to work with clay, fabrics, paper, and wood.

Did you know that just an hour's drive from Moscow can bring you to Jordan River, Gethsemane garden, and the temple of the grave of the Lord? Why not spend a weekend exploring Russian Palestine, a remarkable complex established in the 17th century by Patriarch Nikon.

New Jerusalem is one of the most picturesque and unusual monasteries in Moscow's countryside. Founded in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon as a patriarchal residence in the vicinity of Moscow, it was meant to represent the Holy Land.

✅ QR code is not required but you need to wear a mask.
⠀
✅ In addition to visiting its majestic cathedrals, you may climb the walls of the monastery to enjoy outstanding views from above. Have a lovely stroll past the monastery wall to the park which is meant to represent the garden of Gethsemane.

🍴 You can have a simple but hearty meal in one of the monasteries’ cafes or find a more elegant restaurant in Istra such as Davidov
⠀
🚈 How to get? It’ll take you a bit more than an hour to get to the monastery by car but you may easily take a commuter train. The trains are comfortable and the scenery on the way is very picturesque. The journey takes around one hour and 20 minutes. Once in Istra, you will need to take a taxi to reach New Jerusalem (5 min ride)

✅ Optional tour extension: If you like history we'd recommend you to visit the museum of the New Jerusalem which is only 7 minute walk from the monastery. It is a remarkable place to understand the 17th-century history of Russia and the personality of the patriarch Nikon. The museum often hosts outstanding art exhibitions.

🧊Baikal is covered with ice for almost 5 months a year.
⠀
🧊When other rivers and lakes freeze, Baikal cold waves break against shore and decorate the rocks and caves with ice patterns.
⠀
🧊Lake Baikal gets frozen completely only in mid winter late January, early February.
⠀
🧊The ice thickness varies from 40-120 cm in mid February-tmid March. That is the time when you can safely cross Baikal by motor vehicle. But cracks and slots of 0,5-2 m wide stretching for thousands of kilometres are dangerous for travel on ice. It is important to be with experienced drivers and guides.
⠀
🧊When cracks appear, they are accompanied with “artillery shots” sound which might be frightening for people standing on ice.
⠀
🧊The ice starts melting in March and gets less transparent. But the lake is freed of its ice imprisonments only around May-June when the shores get rosy due to rhododendrons blossoming. The late ice phenomenon ( freezing and melting) are caused by the small range of temperature change of a huge water mass.

🧊In some places, gases are emitted from the bottom of the lake. small air bubbles rise to the surface and freeze into the ice. They look like bright white balls, ovals or buns. In such places, the ice becomes thinner, because along with the bubbles of gas, warmer water also rises, which causes the ice to melt. But thrash places are known by experienced ice captains!
