Oops!...We Did It Again!

Second year in a row guides of Evrasia Travel are recognizes as the best guides of Russia. Today, our guide-interpreter and scientific consultant Azat Safaryan celebrates victory in a competition “Best in profession”.

Last year, Alexander Shchepetkov, deputy director and personal guide, was awarded the same prize.

All the tours are leaded by experienced guides and interpreters that is a guarantee of a high level of quality and safety.

Yes, it's another Monday, and we are still eager to continue with #4.

What makes Eurasia Travel special is its people. In the early nineties, many well-known Perm residents took part in the work of the company (at that time Eurasia was a large diversified company) - Boris Andrenko, Yuri Mukhin, Viktor Shein, Yuri Trutnev, Ivan Kvyatkovsky.

We are lucky to have Vladimir Permyakov in our team, one of the most famous fishermen in the region and a tourist rafter who passed routes of the 6th category of difficulty, a repeated participant in the world rafting championships, in fact - one of the patriarchs of tourism. in the Perm region. He is pictured on the photo when fishing on the Nizhnyaya Tunguska river (Putorana plateau) in September 2004.

We are proud of having chance to work together with champion of Russia in rock climbing Sergey Galanin.

Tatyana Ivanova, the first master of sports in water tourism among women of the K**a region and the mother of the writer Alexei Ivanov, was also an astonishing member of our team.

Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Alexander Zyryanov, champions of the USSR, masters of sports Nikolai Chizhov, Yuri Kilin, Alexander Knyazev and many others joined our company, too.

Later Andrey Korolev joined us - a four-time champion of Russia and the CIS in sports tourism, winner of international championships and competitions in sports tourism, associate professor of our tourism department at the Faculty of Geography of Perm State National Research University.

In some especially difficult tours, the guides were the late Professor Georgy Chagin and the writer Aleksey Ivanov.

We keep these traditions, and now we have the best guides and translators. Alexander Shchepetkov, Deputy Director of Eurasia Travel, won the competition last year and was recognized as the best guide-translator in Russia.

Evrasia Travel became, in fact, the ancestor of the private tourism business in the Urals. Many executives of travel agencies in Perm learned our skills and created their own companies.

For 33 years, we have organized the arrival of more than 8 thousand tourists from 28 countries, including some of the most exotic: South America, South Africa, Australia, etc.

Now it is a common thing when everything goes smoothly and easily with communication - thank God, there is the Internet. And 30 years ago there weren't even faxes. Moreover, there was not even food. We had to fight for a quota for the purchase of stewed meat and rice... We had a large warehouse so that we could feed foreign tourists, because it was impossible to buy anything in stores.

And this is again Sergey Minaev and his fascinating stories!

It may seem that Eurasia Travel works only in Perm krai. With the whole world, but in the Perm region. This is not entirely true. More precisely, not at all true.

Our guides took their groups to Kamchatka, to Baikal, to the north of Yakutia, to Central Asia... We did such tours that no one could repeat later. And, of course, we are proud of it!

In 1993, for example, we organized a speed skating marathon on the Lake of Baikal. The Dutch are known to be very fond of ice skating and they used to skate along canals which there are plenty in Amsterdam, unfortunately their canals had not been frozen for 12 years.

We arrived in Irkutsk, cleared the ice of the lake to get ready for the 100-kilometer marathon. And a charter flight arrived. Just imagine: 90 people from Amsterdam skated on Baikal.

All Irkutsk was in shock. The beginning of the 90s. Tourism? Never heard! International tourism? What the hell you were talking about?..

Shall we start with “Once upon a time? .. " 🧐

The first international experience of Evrasia Travel was an adventure tour in 1989. 17 American students with their teachers came to Perm, and 17 Perm students visited America. This was the so-called exchange, and we exchanged the rafting on the Vishera for our foreign guests and the rafting on the Grand Canyon for the Perm students.

The rafting route along the Vishera was developed by the master of sports Nikolai Trubnikov.

It is noteworthy that the whole case was politically motivated, it was called СПЛАВ. It means “rafting” and is pronounced like “splav”, with the first letters of the Cyrillic alphabet abbreviating the phrase "Совместное Путешествие Лучшая Альтернатива Войне" (“joint travel is the best alternative to war”).

American students seemed to be a little scared. For them then the Soviet Union was such an unknown country behind the Iron Curtain. The local authorities were very worried about this tour and demanded a complete plan of the entire route from us. It was funny when a tourist group met on the river in certain places with fishermen, who stood there in the same clothes and fished in the most unusable places, demonstrating a clearly military bearing...
