Longstanding elevators In Saint Petersburg, still working!

Until the 1890s, the elevators were exclusively the prerogative of the imperial and grand palaces. But, at the end of the XIX century "hoister" as they were called, began to appear in tenement houses and institutions. Usually elevators were faced with fine wood, carved and inlaid inside. For passengers were arranged leather sofas, and elevator shafts were decorated with unique ornaments .

Legendary Cruiser 'Aurora' is going to comeback Summer, 2016. Today the cruiser is in repair. Last year 2014 the cruiser was taken to be checked and to be renovated.

This cruise Aurora is a big part of Russian history. Locals call the cruiser 'lady' so, the lady now is in the beauty salon. Cruiser was lunched in 1903! The first saw action was Russian-Japanese was 1904-1905. She participated in World War II.

The Cruiser is also famous for the special role it played in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. On the eve of the revolution, the night of October 25, 1917, the 'Aurora's' crew had sided with the revolutionaries, sailed up the Neva. It was moored at a bridge not far from the seat of the Provisional Kerentsky government which was located in Winter Palace. From there, at 9:45 PM, the cruiser fired the famous blank shot which was the signal to start the storming the Winter Palace. The foregun which gave the signal shot is still there and has a memorial plaque on it.

Russian poet was born in Moscow (10 of February 1890 - 10 of May 1960) into a wealthy and artistic assimilated Russian Jewish Family. During his childhood he was acquainted with many talented people of that time. Levitan, Nesterov, Polenov, Ge and even Leo Tolstoy. He was growing in the atmosphere of art, philosophy and hard work. He felt in love with music, philosophy and literature... it was not an easy choice. He left the idea of composing the music because he didn't have perfect ear...

Today Boris Pasternak is well known author of his book "Doctor Zhivago". He spent 10 years to create this novel (1945-1955). This novel takes place between 1905 (Russian Revolution) till the Beginning of the World War II. This novel addresses to such important things like - secrets of life and death, historical questions and Christianity. It was refused to publish this novel in USSR. They said it was strange author's attitude to October Revolution, when you read the book you got the feeling this Revolution wasn't needed! The first book was published in Italy in 1957, then in Holland and England later in the USA. Boris Pasternak was the second Russian author who was given Nobel Prize after Nabokov. Many Russian litterateurs wanted him to be deported from USSR and expunged from Union of Soviet Writers....

Pasternak died from lung censor. After his death the attitude to him and his novels slowly were changed. The exclusion from Union of Soviet Writers was canceled in 1987. The first published book "Doctor Zhivago" appeared in USSR in 1988. His Nobel Prize was given to his elder sun in 1989. Lot of volumes of his books were published. Today this book is compulsory to reed in school program.
