One of the best samples of the Russian baroque, the only residential building of the XVIII century on Nevsky Prospect, Stroganov Palace up to 1917 belonged to the most ancient family of industrialists Stroganovs. Constructed in the shortest terms upon the project of one of the most demanded architects of the period, F. B. Rastrelli, it stroked contemporaries with its luxury of decor, magnificence of balls of high society and lunches.

And it was Stroganovs who inspired french chef to create popular beef stroganoff dish))

Except numerous palaces there is a castle in the centre of St.Petersburg.
It was built as a real castle with fortifications, canals, demi-bastions, drawbridges and cannons.
Nevertheless, the St. Michael’s Castle was the Emperor’s residence only for 40 days. On the night of March 12, 1801, Emperor Pavel I was assassinated in his bedroom, falling victim to a palace coup.

We always recommend to visit New Holland island. It’s one of the most favorite places for local and just perfect place to chill, eat, buy craft things.
The history of this island takes us back to the city foundation times.
Initially the island belonged to the Admiralty, a shipbuilding yard established by Peter I in 1704. During the first few years of operation, the yard resembled a real Dutch dockyard, so it was nicknamed New Holland due to the presence of foreign shipbuilders and manmade canals.
Until 2004, New Holland remained a restricted area, as it hosted warehouses of the Baltic Navy.
In 2010, Millhouse, a company owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, won the competition to reconstruct and repurpose the island for public use.
Now we are enjoying this cute island and it is still more resembles dutch place, but it is so suits St.Petersburg.

The Bolshoi state St.Petersburg circus
Centuries of circus traditions and renowned mastery of Russian performers, as well as a trip to one’s childhood, make this famous Saint Petersburg gem so special.

This is an old-school circus, in an old-school building, with “clown noses” and cotton candy on sale in the lobby. Kids dance to a guy playing the trumpet during intermission. Seats are still red velvet, but more comfortable. And the hush still falls over the place with the first drumroll.
