ABAGI is a fishing Cooperative based in Rusizi which offers community based tourism experiences including “ISAMBAZA night fishing” and guided boat trips in Rusizi side of the lake Kivu as their main tourism activities. Isambaza are very small fishes (most probably Kapenta fishes), fished using a wide-spread net and three connected large boats and eaten whole. The panoramic lights reflecting in the lake Kivu from Rusizi Town and the neighboring town of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo makes the night fishing experience more amusing! You can also choose to visit different islands in the lake Kivu and get to know about the history and the culture of that community. The community based tourism experiences are done with the main purpose to have some earnings to sustain our families and at the same time sharing our cultural experience with our visitors (tourists).
