In the game-rich heart of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, Time + Tide Chinzombo balances raw safari adventure with quiet indulgence.

Wake to birdsong, drift into your private pool, and let the day unfold in guided walks, game drives or river safaris. Evenings bring fireside stillness, starlit skies, and – for the truly adventurous – a secluded bush sleep-out under canvas and constellations.

At Puku Ridge, you don’t even need to leave the lodge to see wildlife.

Elevated above a private floodplain, it overlooks a waterhole frequented by giraffes and spiral-horned puku.

Sit in your private pool with a glass of champagne and see which animals sidle up to the waterhole for a drink. Zebra, giraffes, antelope – even a herd of elephants if you're lucky!

Grab your camera and head to the lodge’s private hide to photograph these animals as they cool off in the water in front of you.

Imagine waking up in a riverside cottage and stepping out onto your private deck. With a piping hot coffee in your hands (delivered a few minutes ago by the valet), you’re watching hippos wallowing in the Zambezi River below between sips.

On today’s agenda: a trip to see the mighty Victoria Falls, followed by a sunset boat safari to (hopefully) spot elephants on the riverbanks.

Return to the lodge later for a soak in your freestanding bathtub and a candlelit dinner out on the deck.

Your day could look like this at Tongabezi Lodge, an award-winning eco-lodge in Zambia!

A walking safari is electrifying! Nature seems to have a sharper focus when your feet are on the ground (and you're not in a safari vehicle).

You notice more. The tracks of a hippo on the riverbank. A porcupine quill in a thorny acacia bush. You spot an impala grazing, and a monitor lizard scuttling up a tree.

Hear the shriek of an African Fish Eagle overhead, and frogs croaking in the reeds by your feet. As you wander through the grasslands, a breeze carries a herby scent of wild sage.

In the 1950s, British conservationist Norman Carr pioneered the first walking safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Follow in his footsteps with one of our recommended expert guides!

Nothing quite compares to seeing Victoria Falls from above in a helicopter.

Soaring over the Zambezi River, taking in a bird’s-eye view of the water cascading down into the narrow gorges below. Vapour plumes rise up, shimmering with rainbows in the sunlight.

With abundant wildlife and fewer people, South Luangwa National Park is a true immersion in nature. Known as the 'Valley of the Leopard’ it is home to the largest leopard population in Africa.

Watch them brazenly stalking their prey in broad daylight or snoozing high up in the branches of a tree, their dinner dangling beside them.

Spot blue-eyed cubs tumbling together while their mother rests in the shade, keeping a watchful eye.

You’ll hear them before you see them. Their shrieking calls echo through Rwanda’s UNESCO-listed Nyungwe Forest.

Then, with a rustle of leaves, you’ll spot the curious face of a chimpanzee looking down at you from above. 🐒

Spend an hour with our recommended guide, watching the chimps play and swing through the trees in search of fruit. We can help you secure your permit in advance and suggest the best places to stay, too.

Moments like this are worth waking up early for. 👌
