Today we celebrate World Hippopotamus Day! 🦛
Did you know that hippos can reach a maximum speed of 30 km/h, although they weigh up to 4.5 tons?!
In Rwanda, Hippos are found in various wetlands, most of them in Akagera National Park, which is the perfect habitat for hippos because of the extensive wetland and water bodies like Lake Ihema.
More than 1750 hippos were counted in Akagera National Park during the most recent census!
reminds us to protect and value these giant mammals, which are endangered due to habitat loss, hunting and poaching.
