Every year, Rwanda celebrates Kwita Izina, the Baby Gorilla Naming Ceremony, a unique conservation event inspired by the traditional Rwandan custom of naming newborn babies.

🐒 Unexpected Encounter on the Way to Kibale National Park 🇺🇬

On our journey to Kibale National Park for chimpanzee trekking, we had a truly wild roadside surprise!

A lively troop of olive baboons crossed our path, curiously eyeing the snacks we had in the car. It was a fascinating moment to watch them observe us so closely, clearly hoping for a treat 🍌😄

But as responsible travelers, we strictly followed conservation rules—no feeding wild animals. This helps protect their natural behavior and keeps them safe in the wild.

The “big boss” baboon even tried a few clever moves to convince us… but after realizing we weren’t giving in, he calmly led his troop away, and we continued our journey in peace.

Moments like these remind us that in Uganda, wildlife is never far away—and respect for nature is always the most important rule.
