*INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT OUR BIRD OF THE DAY-THE RUPPELL’s STARLING.*

These birds are often found in small flocks. Rüppell’s starlings have a range of songs that includes harsh sounds, sweet notes, and some mimicry. They can sometimes be heard in the middle of the night.

Extremely active during the day, they are ground foragers that are always in motion, often in pairs or small groups.

These birds forage for insects and fruit, and look for food scraps at camp sites.

They nest in tree holes or in holes formerly occupied by woodpeckers, and line nests with dung and sticks. While both parents incubate the eggs, females more often feed the chicks and are sometimes assisted by offspring from a previous brood. They’re monogamous and the most beautiful thing of all is that they’re considered the least of concern.for more about birds of Rwanda email us on [email protected]

_African fish eagle_ is a majestic bird of prey found near freshwater habitat in sub-Saharan Africa. Here is the description based on your instructions:

*Eating :* The African fish eagle primarily feeds on fish, swooping down from the sky to catch its prey with its sharp talons. It also consumes other aquatic animals like water birds and even carrion.

*Reproduction:* These eagles form monogamous pairs and build large nests in tall trees near water bodies. They lay 1-3 eggs per clutch, and both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the young.

*Social behavior:* African fish eagles are often seen alone or in pairs, except during the breeding season when they are more social with their mate and offspring. They are territorial birds and will defend their nesting sites vigorously.

*Enemies:* The main enemies of African fish eagles are larger raptors like martial eagles and Verreaux's eagles, which may compete for food and territory. _Additionally_ , crocodiles pose a threat to young eagles near water.

*Difference between female and male:* Female African fish eagles are slightly larger than males, with a wingspan that can reach up to 2.4 meters. Males are typically smaller and lighter than females........✍️ For more trips in Rwanda contact [email protected]

Did you known that the male african jacana takes care of the eggs and young:

The male is the one who incubates the eggs and cares to the young, not the female. Because some of the eggs will probably be consumed by crocodiles, female jacanas mate with as many males as they can and lay as many as they can.

The majority of southern yellow-billed hornbills are insectivores, with dung beetles being their preferred food source. Their enormous bills are used to dig and move items on the ground in order to get at their prey, which is typically massive and occasionally hairy in the form of caterpillars. Their big bill aids in keeping their prey safely away from their eyes and delicate face. Aside from insects, hornbills consume a variety of carnivorous foods, including lizards, bats, rats, and nesting birds.
