How does mating work among mountain gorillas? 🦍

Mating is a natural part of gorilla family life, but unlike many wildlife species, mountain gorillas do not have a specific breeding season. They can mate throughout the year, allowing their populations to grow steadily in their natural habitat.

A dominant silverback usually leads the family group and plays a key role in protecting its members, maintaining order, and reproducing with adult females. Female gorillas typically give birth to a single infant after a gestation period of about eight and a half months, and mothers provide years of care to their young.
