However, here’s a crucial heads-up from your Auntie Valentina: what many don’t realize is that Greece, sadly, has one of the highest mortality rates in Europe when it comes to road accidents.

😔 Especially during those bustling sunny summer months, there’s a big surge of excited travelers hopping on scooters who've never actually ridden one before. And my friends, that can, unfortunately, lead to some truly tragic accidents. 💔

So, please, please, please listen to me on this one: if you’ve never driven a scooter before, for your safety and peace of mind, stick to renting a car in Greece or using the excellent public transport options. 🚌

You can reach this paradise by ferry from mainland ports like Volos, Thessaloniki, Mantoudi, Agios, and Konstantinos. If you're coming from Athens, simply drive or catch a bus directly to the port of Volos (about 3.5 hours), then hop on a ferry for Skiathos (a quick 1.5-2.5 hours!). Easy peasy, no travel anxiety needed!

HOW TO GET TAN Tip No. 6: Pick Your Perfect Sunscreen! 🎯🧴
🤔🧴🛡️ Alright, my lovely, anxious travelers, let's get personal about sunscreen! Choosing the right one for your unique skin is absolutely crucial for a healthy tan and staying safe under that gorgeous sun. ☀️

💖 This isn't a one-size-fits-all situation, so let's figure out your perfect match for optimal sun protection!

Are you like me, perhaps from Northern Europe, where your skin tends to turn a lovely shade of lobster before it even thinks about tanning? 🦞😬

If you burn easily and quickly get red, there's no debate: you need an SPF 50 sunscreen! And bonus points if it's got soothing aloe vera in it to keep your skin happy. Seriously, don't even think about going lower! 🚫

Now, if you're blessed with beautiful olive skin, lucky you! 🤩 You might tan more easily, but that doesn't mean you're invincible. Always, always use a good sunscreen, no less than SPF 30.

And honestly, as your super-organized travel blogger, I'll always advise going straight for an SPF 50, regardless of your skin type. When it comes to our health, especially preventing skin cancer, a little extra prudence goes a long, long way. 🌟

I share this with you from personal experience: my wonderful father developed skin cancer on his back a few years ago. He was a "put it on once and stay out all day" kind of guy. 😔

Thankfully, they removed it completely, but now he can't get a tan at all and has to stay strictly in the shade, even at the beach, because the risk of recurrence is incredibly high. And sadly, after five years, another one appeared, which was also removed.

His doctors stressed that once you get one, the likelihood of more in the future increases. 💔 This is why I'm so passionate about consistent sunscreen application and finding your ideal SPF.

While its sunny charm beckons year-round, choosing the right season can truly elevate your experience and banish any travel anxiety about crowds or discomfort. So, let me explain how Barcelona shines in every season, so you can pick the best time for your visit! ✨

☀️ Summer Sizzle (July & August): While the lure of the beach is undeniable, July and August can be a double-edged sword. My second visit was late August, and it was so hot I literally couldn't explore from 12 to 5 pm!

🥵 Crowds swell, prices soar, and the midday sun can be scorching, forcing you to seek refuge indoors to avoid sunburn. If your heart is set on summer sun, consider June instead – temperatures are delightful, beaches inviting, and crowds haven't peaked yet.

🌷 Spring Awakening (April & May): This is where the magic begins, my friends! My first visit to Barcelona was in April, and the temperature was just perfect to explore all day and even spend an afternoon at the beach to start working on getting the perfect tan! 🏖️ The city awakens, boasting pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and blooming flowers, adding magic to your strolls. Just pack a light jacket for those still-chilly evenings!

🍂 Autumn's Golden Embrace (September & October): Ah, truly a magical time to visit Barcelona! The summer crowds have vanished, the weather remains wonderfully warm and sunny, and the city takes on a relaxed, almost nostalgic air. You can even enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea without battling the masses, just like Lajos and I did during our fourth visit last year! 🥂

❄️ Winter Wonderland (November - March): While not the most popular time, Barcelona’s winter offers unique charm. Prices plummet, allowing you to experience the city on a budget. Just be prepared for cooler temperatures and occasional rain, and some attractions might have limited hours.

For that sweet spot of perfect weather, manageable crowds, and open attractions, I wholeheartedly recommend those glorious shoulder seasons! They're truly the best time to visit Barcelona for a relaxed, authentic experience.

We're talking about gems like almond oil (up to 5 SPF), luscious coconut oil (up to 6 SPF), nourishing shea butter (up to 6 SPF), and even common olive oil (up to 6 SPF). 🌰🌴🫒

But here's where it gets really interesting for your healthy tan journey: carrot seed oil can offer up to 40 SPF, and red raspberry seed oil can boast up to a whopping 50 SPF! 🥕🍓 Amazing, right?!
