This could be your Swedish National Day in Halland. ❤️🇸🇪

🕝 08:12
Wake up in Halland.
Soft salty wind. Coffee boiling. National Day waiting outside.

🕝 09:20
The sea calls.
Cold? Maybe. Still worth it.

🕝 10:41
Time to move.
Hair still salty. And something ahead.

🕝 12:05
Follow the music.
Flags above. And celebration all around.

🕝 15:15
Stay a little longer.
Late lunch. And nowhere to rush.

🕝 20:48
Not quite done yet.
Light fading. And a summer evening still waiting.

Across Halland, June 6 takes different shapes. Live music, celebrations, local traditions, community and summer gatherings.

Why June 6? In 1523, Gustav Vasa was elected king, marking Sweden’s break from the Kalmar Union. On the same date in 1809, Sweden adopted a new constitution.

Meet hårginst (Genista pilosa).
Halland’s landscape flower.

This small yellow plant has survived in Halland’s sandy heathlands for centuries. A reminder of the old open landscapes that once covered large parts of this region on the Swedish west coast.

Hårginst usually blooms during May and June, turning parts of the landscape yellow for a short time each early summer.

You can find it in places like:
• Mästocka Ljunghed, Laholm
• Vessinge Sandhedar, Laholm
• Övragård, Laholm
• Hollandsbjär, Laholm
• Hällarp, Falkenberg
• Vapnö and Åled gravel pits, Halmstad

Fika is one of Sweden’s most beloved traditions. Part coffee break, part social ritual, part small escape from everyday life.

The word “fika” comes from the old Swedish word for coffee, “kaffi”. Today, fika can happen almost anywhere. At work, in a café, by the sea, in the forest or at home under a blanket while the rain hits the window.

Here’s a small guide to fika life in Halland on Sweden’s west coast:

☕ Rule #1
Fika is never just coffee.
Coffee, cinnamon buns and a small pause from life.

☕ Rule #2
Don’t rush fika.
Sometimes it lasts 20 minutes. Sometimes the whole evening disappears.

☕ Rule #3
Fika works almost anywhere.
In bed. At a café. In a forest. By the sea. Alone or with someone you like.

☕ Rule #4
Buy fika from a local bakery.
Bring fika from a bakery or café and people will like you immediately.

☕ Rule #5
You deserve fika today.
Saying no to the pastries in Halland is surprisingly difficult.

Here in Halland, we take fika seriously.

Some places make people return year after year.

Prince Bertil Gustaf Oscar Carl Eugen, Duke of Halland and uncle of Sweden’s current king, spent many summers along the coast of Halland. He also had a summer house in Tylösand, Close to the trail that today carries his name: Prins Bertils stig.

Today, the 18 km coastal trail winds through rocky shores, hidden beaches, sea views and quiet paths between Halmstad Castle and Tylösand.

A walk shaped by salt air, evening light and the Swedish west coast at its best.

Is it your turn now?
