Hi and welcome to my guide business page! One of the reasons that I became a certified nature guide here in Sweden is that I have a deep interest in the human relationship to nature throughout history. I love cultural landscapes that have been shaped by human interaction with the physical environment since far back in time. I reside on the Baltic island Öland where the landscape is full of traces from ancient times, such as rune stones and fortresses and the UNESCO World Heritage Site called "The agricultural landscape of southern Öland". I recently became a certified Öland guide, which led me to start my own guide company.
I have a background in social anthropology and China studies and between 2012-2019 I lived parts of the year with the indigenous Wa people and other ethnic minority groups in Yunnan province in South-West China. The Wa to some extent maintain their ancestral animistic och polytheistic religion, in which everything in nature is believed to have a soul. I witnessed and got to take part in many animist rituals living among them and I often talk about these experiences in my guided tours, to connect historical phenomena to now living cultures that have preserved age-old traditions.
A goal I often have with my guided tours is to show how much humanity has in common by anchoring a specific place or phenomenon in a larger global context, while also helping participants to build or deepen their connection to the place we're exploring by focusing on the local context.
In the spotlight of my guide business is culture, nature, historical events and the multifaceted present. My tours will typically address the human relationship to nature, anchored in history, religion, ethnology, folklore, and sometimes song and music.
I have given many tours when working as a guide in the reconstructed Iron Age fortress Eketorp based around old folk songs on various themes, and you can expect more tours like that from me as I love spreading knowledge of the rich Scandinavian folk-song heritage and the storytelling embedded there.
Sometimes my focus will be on reviving old traditions in new ways, through a special tour, course or event.
I'll gladly create tailor-made tours and am open to suggestions. I love writing tour guide scripts. I have experience in event coordination for events based around history or holidays and have a passion for destination development, especially in places that I reckon have untapped potential.
Since I speak, read and write standard Chinese an aim is to give tours in Chinese in Scandinavia and to do tours in China, a country I consider my second home. In the past I have worked as guide and interpreter on tours there for adopted Swedes returning to their native regions and old orphanages.
On this page I will share my offerings and content related to that, as well as updates on what I'm working on or what I'm being inspired by at the moment.
Thank you for showing an interest in my guide business and following my page!
