THE VARAVILD 2018 BOREAL HANGOUT July 29th - August 1st
Dear friends,
This year's HangOut looks like it is going to be a special one. Never before did we have such hot and dry conditions and it does not look like things are going to change much in the coming days. This means there is a total fire ban in place.
Because of that I will not allow any type of outdoor stoves (wood, gas, alcohol, tablets, etc.) to be used during the HangOut. Also, smoking will not be allowed.
I choose to see this more as an interesting challenge and not a hinder. The location for the HangOut, given below, offers great swimming. The water is clean and good to drink but it never harms to bring a water filter or cleaning tablets if you have them. Do not worry if you do not have such things. We will all help each other out! Also, the location is chosen so we can bring some jerry cans with drinking water in advance.
If you are a smoker please change to non-smoking alternatives during the HangOut.
I leave it up to you to come up with solutions for food. I know it is easy and light to use dried meals but if you can not cook water they probably are not that great. There are many products that will keep in the heat such as certain sausages, bread, non-dairy fat (like cocos oil) etc. Are you interested in a great aboriginal (hunter-gatherer) survival food?: Google on how to make Pemmican.
This year's location for the HangOut is the same as it was for the 2016 HangOut:
61°53'36.7"N + 12°33'44.8"E

Do not worry if you are not familiar with coordinates or do not feel secure to hike in the wilderness on your own like that. If you do not want to walk there on your own, I (Peter) will walk to the location with those who want to join me. If you want to join me you need to come to VaraVild in Höstsätern see location on our page here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/VaraVild-172003996165267/about
We will leave at 15:00 on Sunday the 29th so make sure you are there after 14:00 but before 15:00 !!
I am sure this will once again be a great HangOut and I am looking forward to see you all!
Best Regards,
Peter Friebel
