Halloween inträffar den 31 oktober ursprungligen och har historiskt sitt ursprungi irländska och anglosaxiska All hallow's eve, aftonen före Allhelgonadagen. Det var en keltisk höstfest som markerade skördetiden då eldar tändes för att vägleda de döda och skrämma bort häxor

INTRODUCING ESCAPADE’S WATER ACTIVITIES AND RAGUNDA REPUBLIC BOARD RIDERS

With the expert knowledge and long experience of water culture on part of the Escapade tribe and collaborators, we have decided to explore what such a culture could look like in the Nordic region.
We are now bringing some serious water culture into our adventures and will be offering stand-up paddle boarding, surf training, and prone paddling, from beginner to advanced.
Our CEO and dedicated adventure nomad, Åsa, has spent almost half her life in New Zealand and immersed in water culture, from living on a beach swimming and picking kai moana (sea food) to surfing, rafting and paddling.

To assist us with these new pursuits, we are stoked to introduce our new Guide Laird.
Laird is an Australian surfer who brings his love of water culture and passion for board sports and way of life to people. “Surfing and paddle sports have provided me with a deeper connection to the natural world. Using the elements to focus the mind, body and soul. Surfing and paddling not only provide me with physical benefits, but also a way of de-stressing and appreciating the moment I am in.”
Laird’s other pursuits include fly-fishing, swimming, triathlons, ultra-marathons, snow- boarding, health, breathwork, hot & cold therapies, fitness & nutrition. KRAFTVERK - Wednesday's stories on a Tuesday

Följ med på en resa utmed den vackraste delen av Indalsälven som majestätiskt flyter fram genom Ragundadalens kanjon. Här reser vi tillbaka till skapandet av de första vattenkraftverken, från Krångede, Gammelänge och Hammarstrand mfl, där vi tar oss ned under jorden och ser hur det gick till när dammarna och verken byggdes. Krångedeforsarna var en stor attraktion under Ragundas glansperiod runt sekelskiftet. Gäster kom från hela landet till dåtidens brunns- och badanstalt i Hammarstrand , som tex, författaren Hjalmar Söderberg (1905). Det var även här i Krångede som Ivar Lo Johansson hade sitt livs stora kärlek och fann stoff åt sitt författarskap.

And it’s Wednesday. Again. And we are back to History Wednesdays and the 3rd instalment of history you never knew. 📖
Today we present: DÖDA FALLET, the Dead Falls, and the story of disastrous engineering & a tsunami 💀 🌊

The Storforsen rapids had long been a problem for those who lived upstream on the Indalsälven River. The timber that floated was smashed like match-sticks over the waterfall, the salmon were prevented from wandering further up the river, and there was that dream of creating a waterway from the Baltic to the Great Lake, Storsjön.
A company was formed and the supervisor, Magnus “Vildhussen” Huss, was hired to dig a canal, bypassing the waterfall. What the company lacked in engineering knowledge and geological skills, they compensated for with action.
On the night of June 6, 1796, the canal construction began to break through the sandpit, and in a couple of hours the 20 km2 large Ragunda lake was emptied and Storforsen became the Dead Fall! The tsunami-like river-wave that washed down the valley, destroyed farms, houses, boats, trees, mills, saws, jetties and fishing facilities.
The biggest natural disaster of modern times in Sweden was a fact.
Vildhussen was later to be found dead, floating in the Indalsälven River.

Welcome back to ‘History Wednesdays’ - the Swedish history lessons you never knew (or ever thought you wanted to know.. ?) 😃 📖
Today we channel a couple of goddesses of the NORSE MYTHOLOGY:
First up is Skaði, or Skadi, the Norse bow hunting goddess and ruler over mountains, wildernesses, winter, revenge, knowledge, justice, and independence. Passionate in her pursuits, especially in the pursuit of justice, Skadi is determined to live how she wants and not ordered about by any of the gods of Asgard.
As a giant she is associated with winter, and thus darkness and cold. However, she is more benevolent than the rest of her kind, and is also seen as the personification of strength, courage, and endurance.
Second up we have Freya, or Freja, goddess of blessings, love, growth, lust, and fertility. A member of the Vanir tribe, Freya has a penchant for the magical arts of divination and Seidr, a form of magic enabling practitioners knowledge of the future.
Freya was a tad more gentle and kind than other deities. Odin and Thor practiced much trickery and aggression whilst Freya accomplished her pursuits through gentler means. Like all Norse gods she did also however fight fiercely when in battle. Some say she took the lives of half the warriors ever slain in battle. (The Poetic Edda, Snorri Sturluson, 13th C)

Welcome to History Wednesdays - a new weekly slice of history you knew nothing about...
Today we feature our home, Ragunda, perched along the river Indalsälven in county Jämtland, Sweden.
In 1111, Jämtland was claimed by Norway, but for 200 years the Ragunda Valley remained a small kingdom or republic on its own. The Swedish and Norwegian kings competed to be in favor of the Ragundians.
The independent spirit still lives on today on these lands, some say...
