Kiruna is a city on the move!

During weeks 34, 35 and 36, the historic cultural building Jerusalem will be moved to a new location.

Due to its size, the house will be relocated in three separate sections. Built in 1927, Jerusalem has been a protected historic building since 2001 and is recognized as a culturally and historically significant part of Kiruna’s heritage.

The name “Jerusalem” has its roots in the history of the house and the lively life that unfolded there. It is said to have earned its name because it was a vibrant place, often filled with bustle, noise and commotion.

The name refers to the old expression “the destruction of Jerusalem,” which was used to describe a place characterized by disorder, turmoil and great liveliness. Over time, “Jerusalem” became the established name of the house, a name that has lived on to this day.
