Last Saturday in August is Lyskväll here. Every house on the water puts candles out and the coastline turns into a line of small lights, as far as you can see in both directions.

Then at nine, someone out in the bay plays the national anthem on a trumpet. It carries across the water and everyone goes quiet.

Light a few candles, blow a horn, summer’s done.

Bergaliv (Bergaliv Landscape Hotel) has the mountain. We have the sea. For a handful of nights this autumn you can sleep by one and wake on the other. Sea to Sky.

Night one is the forest spa at Hop Farm Beach, a minute from the Baltic. Sit in the sauna, take the cold shower outside, warm up again under the wood-fired shower in the open air. Then down to the water for the sunset, and if you’re lucky, the northern lights.

Night two you’re on a mountain. Högloftet at Bergaliv is a timber house on stilts above the treetops, one big window onto the Ljusnan valley and an open terrace on the roof. It stands so lightly on the ground that on a windy night you can feel it move.

Then you come down off the mountain and Orbaden Spa is waiting. Salt bath, hot pools inside and out, every one of them looking at the river.

The idea came from two things. First, they’re both design-led cabins. Scandinavian minimalism: everything you need, nothing you don’t. Second, that Destination Hälsingland is Sweden’s hidden gem, and two cabins an hour apart are a good reason to come and find it.

This spot is a few minutes walk from the cabin. You step out of the trees and sunsets like this await.

Right now someone in Stockholm is sitting in traffic. Someone in Berlin is answering emails. Someone in Madrid is doing whatever you do in Madrid at this hour.

They should be here. At least at some point. Disconnect from everything. Next availability is end of September.

Our second summer, and we’re grateful for every guest.

Guests from 19 countries have now found their way to our little slice of heaven in Humlegårdsstrand. That isn’t something we pictured when we were standing in the forest looking at a blank canvas, daydreaming about what’s there now.

We read every word you write and watch every clip that finds its way back to us. Seeing how you experience the cabin is the best part of this.

Here are a few reviews from guests who stayed this summer.

Autumn dates are open, and the calendar for summer 2027 is now live. Link in bio.

New weekend, new guests. A Swedish couple taking over the cabin today. The place is sparkling and ready for them.
If you’ve been sitting on the idea of a stay, September has far more availability than the past few months. May through August has been slammed. September has room.
The chanterelles are coming up in the forest, the northern lights are starting to make appearances, the leaves are about to go gold, the sauna and wood fired outdoor shower are waiting.
A digital detox in Hälsingland. It’s a click away.

The nights are getting chillier. Chanterelles and lingonberries in the blueberry patches, gold in the leaves, and a sweater after dark. The heated floors are back on throughout the cabin.

The cabin has a lot of records and books - we’re slowly building our dream collections. One of our favourite books is Rick Rubin’s “The Creative Act”, which is the kind of book you open to any page and bam - your dose of unexpected wisdom. If you’re ever in the cabin, we hope you grab it.

One of his ideas is the creation of a place - and building for taste not an audience.

“Imagine going to live on a mountaintop by yourself, forever. You build a home that no one will ever visit. Still, you invest the time and effort to shape the space in which you’ll spend your days. The wood, the plates, the pillows—all magnificent. Curated to your taste.”

That’s how we built our cabin. To our taste. The byproduct of building for taste: those with similar taste will eventually gather.

This came to mind because right now a guest is checked in to the cabin for a two-week stay (yes, two weeks). When they came all the way from Germany and checked in, they wrote to us: “Thank you for the great idea of designing something like this.” Taste aligned.

The peninsula from above and from the shoreline. The cabin is hidden in the trees, with sea on both sides. If you get lost, walk in any direction until your feet get wet.
