Winter gear is expensive as hell! Luckily, you don’t have to buy all of it.

We provide the essentials, rent out a few extras, and make sure you’re properly kitted out for a week in the Swedish winter. ❄️

Six nights in the Swedish wilderness. Three at our cosy off-grid cabin, two camping out in the snow, and a final night back by the fire. With plenty of skiing, good food, wood fires and sauna evenings by the frozen lake.

Our 7-day Winter Adventure in Dalarna is a chance to experience a proper Swedish winter, even if you’ve never stood on a pair of Nordic touring skis before.

Beginners are very welcome! We start gently, getting comfortable on the skis and learning the skills we’ll need along the way. There’s a gradual learning curve, with a couple of days exploring the forests and frozen lakes close to our cabin. Then we pack our pulks and head up onto the open plateau for two nights of winter camping.

By then, we’ve had time to find our ski legs, get to know each other and build up the confidence to spend two nights out in the snow.

And when we return to the cabin? A hot sauna, a dip in the frozen lake for the brave, and another evening around the dinner table.

Small groups, two experienced guides and a whole lot of winter.

Snow Caves! ❄️🏔️

A few degrees below zero inside, even when it’s −22°C outside. Snow is a brilliant insulator, and once you’re inside your very own hobbit hole, it’s dead silent.

We sometimes dig snow caves on our winter tours, and if you’re keen, you can spend the night in one you’ve made yourself.

How it’s done:

1️⃣ Find a crest where snow has been piling up for a couple of months.

2️⃣ Dig your entrance.

3️⃣ Hollow out a big cave.

4️⃣ Dig some mo’ and make yourself a cosy little living room.

The whole thing takes around 3–4 hours, depending on how ambitious you are with your interior design.

Cooking from scratch isn’t always superior. But neither is freeze-dried crap.

We cook our expedition meals ahead of time and bring them frozen. Plenty of freezer space in the Swedish winter. 🥕❄️

Some of the things we eat:

🍝 Spaghetti bolognese – just cook the pasta out there
🍛 Veggie curry with halloumi – just cook the rice out there
🥘 Goulash – the whole lot comes frozen
🥣 Potato, leek & cheddar soup
🍄 Mushroom, red rice & tofu soup
🎃 Butternut, carrot & red lentil soup

Swedish winter changes quite a bit as the months go by. January is all drama, February softens things up, and by March it’s bedazzled.

Surprisingly, we like all three.

Our old kayak guide Adam went for a wander in Norra Mora Vildmark last week, which gave us a little peek at one of our favourite winter places before it turns completely white.

Norra Mora Vildmark is a huge nature reserve of old-growth forest, open marshland, frozen lakes and gently rolling terrain. In winter it becomes one of those wonderfully quiet places where we can ski for hours over untouched snow without seeing anyone. And we can always ski a route we’ve never skied before.

We go here for a day or two on all of our Dalarna winter trips, whether that means a longer day out, a gentle tour through the forest or stopping somewhere to cook lunch over the fire.

❄️ Winter Adventure in Northern Dalarna
Our original. Learn Nordic ski touring, live in a cosy off-grid cabin and head out for two nights of proper winter camping. For people who want to actually get out there and do the thing.

🔥 Winter Flavours & Fire in Dalarna
Less mileage, more eating. Five days built around local game, fish, mushrooms, berries and a lot of fire. We’ll head out for some gentle skiing, then spend much of our time back at the cabin hot-smoking over spruce and juniper, roasting things straight in the embers and cooking in cast iron.

🕯️ Winter Week in the Navar Valley
Somewhere between adventure and retreat. Gentle ski tours, ice fishing, ice carving, kurbits painting, a tipi dinner and a sauna every evening. Plenty of time outside, but also plenty of time to enjoy the cabin, the fire and the wonderfully slow pace of winter up here.

All three take place around our cosy and remote off-grid cabin by Lake Navar in Northern Dalarna.
