At a Relais & Châteaux lunch at Stockholm Stadshotell last week, we met with Maslina Resort – and came away with a deeper understanding of what makes this quietly beautiful resort in Croatia so compelling.

As part of the collection, Maslina belongs to a group of independently owned hotels and restaurants, where a strong sense of place, individual character and exceptional standards are matched by a serious focus on the quality of the food.

Don’t be fooled by its beauty – this is as much a place for children as it is for couples, with two heated pools, a beach a short stroll or buggy ride away, and a well-considered children’s programme offering a range of activities.

Beyond the resort, experiences are thoughtfully curated – from exploring hidden coves by boat to discovering the island’s wine, lavender and olive heritage, with engaging activities also designed for younger guests.

Set within Maslinica Bay on Hvar Island, the resort extends across two hectares of pine forest, with the Adriatic never far from view. From here, a 20-minute walk along the water leads to Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in Europe, while Hvar Town – where the pace picks up after dark – is within easy reach.

Maslina represents a new kind of luxury thinking taking shape in travel – one defined by a strong sense of place, balance and a quieter connection to its surroundings.

Inspired by the character of Hvar, the design combines natural materials with a refined Mediterranean simplicity – olive trees casting soft shadows across the pool, and the scent of lavender drifting through the warm afternoon air.

Is this one for your wish list? Get in touch.

Just over an hour south of Lisbon, Comporta sits along a quieter stretch of the Alentejo coast – a landscape shaped as much by rice fields and pine forests as by the Atlantic itself.

It is not a place that announces itself, and tends to attract those who prefer it that way.

There are no large resorts, no built-up promenades – just a scattering of villages, long stretches of protected coastline, and a handful of hotels that feel deliberately placed rather than developed.

Places such as Sublime Comporta and Quinta da Comporta set the tone –
low-slung architecture, natural materials, and a style that draws on the area’s traditional fishermen’s huts.

Days follow a rhythm, but not a schedule.
Mornings begin slowly – often later than intended – before making your way towards the beach.

The coastline stretches for miles, backed by dunes and wooden walkways, with a few beach restaurants marking where to stop.

By late afternoon, the light softens across the rice fields and dunes – giving everything a slightly faded, almost cinematic quality.

Lunch has a habit of running into the afternoon. Grilled fish, chilled wine, tables set directly in the sand – and no real urgency to leave.

But there is more to do, if you look for it.
- Horseback rides along the shoreline at low tide.
- Quiet wellness spaces, yoga sessions set among the pines or overlooking the fields.
- Cycling between rice fields and small villages.
- Surf that is just wild enough to feel Atlantic, without being overwhelming.

Evenings rarely require much planning.
A small rotation of restaurants – some on the beach, others tucked into the villages – where the food is straightforward, well executed, and the atmosphere remains consistently relaxed.

There is very little sense of dressing up.
Linen, salt in your hair, and something thrown on almost as an afterthought – which, more often than not, works better here.

Comporta has quietly found its place – not through scale or spectacle, but through restraint. And that is exactly what continues to define it.

Is this where you’ll be this summer?
Get in touch to explore what might suit you.

Arrive by helicopter, the Aegean opening up beneath you as Kéa slowly comes into view. Or take the slower route by boat from Athens.

Kéa has a quieter presence than most of the Cyclades – less scene, more space, and a sense that everything moves just a little slower. It’s not an island defined by picturesque villages, but by its landscape, its coastline, and the time you spend within it.

At One&Only Kéa Island, the villas are set into the cliffs, with wide, uninterrupted views and a natural sense of privacy throughout.

Just below, the cliffside pool looks out over the Aegean – a place to spend most of the day without needing to move much at all.

Days fall into an easy rhythm – time by the pool, long lunches, and nowhere particular you need to be.

You may find yourself doing less than intended.

But there’s always somewhere to go – a table by the water, a choice of restaurants and bars, something happening at the beach club with DJ sets as the day turns to evening, or simply staying where you are, with everything brought to you.

If you feel like doing more, there’s a cooking class using local ingredients, time out on the water – swimming, paddleboarding or heading out along the coastline – a cocktail class in the speakeasy, a way to get to know the island through its landscape and traditions, or for those who want something more, diving among the island’s historic shipwrecks.

There’s also a more sporty active side – a seafront gym, tennis and padel courts set along the coastline, and space to move when you feel like it.

The spa is set slightly apart, spread across several levels, with wide views, indoor-outdoor pools and a yoga pavilion overlooking the bay – somewhere to properly switch off for a while.

One&Only Kéa offers a more low-key kind of glamour – where space, privacy and pace matter more than scene.

If this feels like your kind of place, we’d be delighted to explore it with you. [email protected]

Old World. New Energy.

There’s nothing dusty about this historic hotel – elegantly regal, yet far from old-fashioned.

At The Lanesborough, history doesn’t feel preserved – it feels alive. Set at Hyde Park Corner, this grand Regency mansion offers a rare balance of tradition and ease, whether for a weekend in London, a few days of meetings, or simply time to switch pace.

Following a recent stay, our founder Therese noted how easily you settle into the hotel – balancing meetings with time to switch off.

With an exceptional spa and a reputation as a true dining destination, it’s a place that feels relaxed despite its grandeur. The Withdrawing Room lends itself beautifully to meetings – or a quiet coffee in the morning, something sparkling as the day slows.

And then, of course – the afternoon tea.
The most English of English things.

Served in the majestic surroundings of The Lanesborough Grill, the Bridgerton Afternoon Tea draws on the elegance of the Regency era, with delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, and beautifully crafted sweets – alongside a wide selection of teas and infusions.

The ‘Forbidden Love’ cocktail completes the experience – very much in the spirit of Lady Whistledown.

A place to stay – but also a destination in its own right.

Stay here and risk never wanting to leave.

Planning a trip to London? We would be delighted to arrange your stay.

A new opening in Cartagena
Four Seasons Hotel and Residences
Opening 2 April 2026

Along Colombia’s Caribbean coast, Cartagena is a tapestry of colour – pastel façades, flower-filled balconies and shaded plazas where life moves at a pleasantly unhurried pace.

At its heart lies the Ciudad Amurallada, the city’s 17th-century fortified old town. Within its stone walls, narrow streets wind between colourful houses and flower-covered balconies, opening onto lively plazas such as Plaza de los Coches and Plaza Santo Domingo, while the towers of Cartagena Cathedral rise above the rooftops.

Just beyond the walls in the vibrant neighbourhood of Getsemaní, the Four Seasons Hotel is opening 2 April 2026, bringing new life to a collection of restored historic buildings. The hotel is spread across four distinct settings – the Contemporary Building, the Cloister, Casa Ambrad and Casa Morales – blending colonial architecture with contemporary design by renowned French interior designer François Catroux.

Restaurants, courtyards and rooftop spaces are woven through the historic structures, with eight dining and bar venues, a rooftop pool overlooking the city and the UMARI spa creating a lively social heart in the neighbourhood.

Experiences also extend beyond the hotel, including guided walks through Getsemaní’s street-art scene and creative workshops with local artists. The neighbourhood is the creative heart of Cartagena, known for colourful street-art murals, lively evening plazas and small cafés and bars.

Rooftop terraces across the old town offer sweeping views over terracotta rooftops, church towers and the Caribbean horizon. Among the best known are Café del Mar, set directly on the historic city walls, and Alquímico, known for its cocktails and stylish rooftop terrace.

With convenient connections from Miami, Cartagena also pairs naturally with a wider Caribbean journey. We recently planned a trip that began in Cartagena before continuing on to Mustique – a beautiful pairing of culture and Caribbean calm.

If a Colombia and Caribbean combination, or perhaps a Miami and Caribbean journey, is on your radar, we would be delighted to help you plan.

Sea, Safari & the Season Ahead

As spring returns to the Mediterranean and evenings grow longer across Europe, a new season of travel begins to take shape.

Across the region, coastlines and islands come back to life, while further afield the dry winter months in Southern Africa bring some of the year’s finest safari conditions.

In our latest newsletter we share a few of the places currently on our radar – from Mediterranean shores and island escapes to safari landscapes, life at sea and destinations further afield.

Think salty swims, rosé in the sun, the occasional leopard draped lazily across a tree branch – and perhaps a yacht waiting quietly in the bay, ready to take you to your next long lunch.

A little inspiration for the months ahead. Our latest newsletter is linked in the comments 👇

Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita
Stop two on our Travel Advisor Louise’s Mauritius review tour.

Cocktails before dinner. Blueberry juice at breakfast. All-you-can-eat ice cream from the cart. Habits you may struggle to undo at home.

Elegant without being stiff. Sophisticated without trying too hard. Recently renovated and beautifully executed, the design is modern yet warm – a place that photographs well, but more importantly, feels good to spend time in.

A few things worth knowing about FS Mauritius:

• Guests have direct boat access to Four Seasons’ dedicated beach area on Île aux Cerfs. While the island itself is shared, the resort operates a beautifully serviced stretch reserved for its guests – and it genuinely feels like a private escape within the escape.

• Dining is a highlight – thoughtful menus, beautiful settings and enough variety to keep a longer stay interesting. At the Japanese restaurant, cocktails arrive under a veil of smoke – understated theatre, beautifully executed.

The Rum Library also deserves mention – an intimate evening bar celebrating the rum heritage of the Vanilla Islands.

• Breakfast is flexible and accommodating – including blueberry juice for a four-year-old, which has unfortunately set a new standard at home.

• Service was consistently warm and attentive – present without ever feeling rehearsed or performative.

For families, Four Seasons feels particularly well suited to those with slightly older children, especially given the range of activities beyond the kids club.

You never really need to leave. The beach, the island, the restaurants, the activities – even nappies delivered to your villa. Everything is thoughtfully considered.

Very much at home – in a more refined setting.

Ice creams for the children. Body scans for the parents.

Cheeky ice creams by the pool, delivered by a lifeguard so attentive that the children insisted on returning several times a day just to see her (admittedly, for the ice cream 😂).

This was our Travel Advisor Louise’s recent experience at One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius — where luxury doesn’t just look beautiful, it works beautifully. What stood out most was how seamlessly everything functioned.

The service felt genuinely warm, with remarkably dedicated staff throughout the resort. Rooms are generous, all overlooking either the lagoon or the ocean. Dining is varied and relaxed, with themed evenings across the week — seafood night being a clear favourite.

Club One brings the gym, tennis, padel and yoga together with KidsOnly and OneTribe, making the days wonderfully simple to organise. Everything is centred in one place, giving the entire stay a smooth, thoughtfully designed rhythm.

The children’s programmes are engaging and well-considered — from creative workshops to DJ sessions and outdoor movie nights — and they genuinely loved it.

For adults, there’s balance. The Guerlain Spa combines French expertise with island rituals, offering proper downtime while younger guests are happily occupied.

The gym’s advanced body analysis — reviewed thoroughly with a trainer — added an unexpectedly detailed touch. A gentle reminder that lounging on sunbeds doesn’t quite count as exercise.

The new Private Homes add another layer: up to six bedrooms, private pools and expansive indoor–outdoor living, with full access to the hotel’s facilities. Ideal for multi-generational stays or families wanting privacy without losing the ease of a resort.

Polished, spacious and surprisingly smooth with children.

If Mauritius is on your mind for a family escape, we would be delighted to advise.

A comfortable way to get close to wildlife

Victoria Falls brings together powerful natural scale and close-up wildlife, without the long days and intensity of a traditional safari.

Along the Zambezi, wildlife is part of daily life. Elephants pass close to the riverbanks, hippos surface below, and birds gather along the water. You’re near enough to see it all, without spending entire days in vehicles or following strict safari routines – which makes the experience especially well-suited to travelling as a family.

The Falls are close and easily visited – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, dropping into the Zambezi Gorge – adding drama and perspective, before returning to river settings where time outdoors feels manageable and engaging rather than overwhelming. The area offers an unusual breadth of experiences: wildlife by river and on land, close-up views of Victoria Falls, and the option to add everything from helicopter flights to white-water rafting. It’s easy to balance shared family experiences with moments of higher energy.

Season matters here. Between June and September, conditions are dry and clear, wildlife concentrates along the river, and river cruises, gentle game drives and Falls visits work particularly well for families and multi-generational travel. From March to May, the landscape is greener, the Falls are at their most powerful, and the emphasis shifts – fewer game drives, more time close to the river.

Getting here can be part of the journey. Rovos Rail operates a direct route between Pretoria and Victoria Falls. It works well as part of a South Africa itinerary – combined with Cape Town and the Winelands, or a safari in the Greater Kruger – or as a way to link Victoria Falls with a safari in Botswana.

There are many ways to experience this part of Africa. We help you shape the one that fits your family best. [email protected]

Sandy feet, salty hair, and light linen clothing – Harbour Island

A longer read, for those who enjoy a sense of place.

As part of the Bahamas’ Out Islands, petite Harbour Island is marked by sun-drenched, coloured wooden houses, compact streets, and a scale that keeps everything close. The island has a distinct sense of freedom, alongside a warm, friendly atmosphere.

If we’ve already sparked your curiosity, we’re happy to explore the possibilities together. Feel free to read on – and return here when you’re ready. [email protected]

Harbour Island is one of the oldest settled islands in The Bahamas. Its history begins in the mid-1600s, when English settlers – known as the Eleutheran Adventurers – first arrived in the region, landing on nearby Eleuthera before making Harbour Island their home.

What matters here is not spectacle, but proportion. Natural beauty, certainly – and a quiet alignment with the island’s laid-back rhythm. As Condé Nast Traveller once observed, there are only two things that really count here: natural beauty and falling in with the rhythm of the place.

On the Atlantic side of the island lies the celebrated Pink Sand Beach – long, open, and remarkably calm. The sand carries its pale blush all day, glowing slightly as the light fades. The water invites exploration – by kayak, paddleboard, boat or fishing charters. Snorkelling reveals pristine coral reefs close to shore, while nearby Briland’s Blue Hole offers something more adventurous for those inclined to look beneath the surface.

Back on land, golf carts are the preferred mode of transport. Not as a novelty, but as a practical expression of the island’s scale. Movement feels unguarded. You pass easily between beaches, restaurants, and hotels – welcomed everywhere, questioned nowhere. A way of life built on trust, familiarity, and social ease.

The hotels reflect this same sensibility. They are integrated into the island rather than operating as self-contained resorts. The Dunmore is relaxed yet considered. Coral Sands feels open and informal, closely connected to the sea. Pink Sands has been an iconic presence on the island since 1951. Bahama House offers a quieter, more residential stay, firmly rooted in the fabric of the island.

Daily life reveals itself in small details. Well-kept bougainvillaea climbing colourful wooden façades. Two parallel roads where bicycles and the signature golf carts replace cars.

On one side of the island, the harbour – lined with superyachts, small shops with boho dresses and souvenirs, and a handful of excellent restaurants. On the other, sea-view restaurants, hotels and the beach – Harbour Island’s most prized possession, best visited towards evening, when the sand takes on a deeper hue.

There is a reason so many visitors return, year after year. Harbour Island does not seek attention. It simply expects you to meet it on its own terms.

The most private way to stay at One&Only Reethi Rah
For guests who value space, privacy and ease.

Which residence suits you best? We’re always happy to advise. [email protected]

The newly enhanced Three-Bedroom Residences at One&Only Reethi Rah are designed for guests who appreciate space that feels generous, privacy that feels real, and a stay that simply feels easy from start to finish.

Each residence is arranged across two separate villas, which makes it easy to be together – and easy to take time on your own. Generous indoor–outdoor living areas, expansive pools and layouts that simply make sense make these residences feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.

There are two distinct options, depending on the mood you’re after:

The Grand Residence sits in the island’s most secluded corner, accessed via a private road and positioned on one of Reethi Rah’s calmest beaches. With three bedrooms across two villas, generous living spaces, a wine room and a discreet staff complex kept out of sight, it’s ideal for those who value quiet, privacy and doing things entirely at their own pace.

The Grand Sunset Residence stretches along the island’s longest private beach, where evenings tend to run late. Three bedrooms across two villas are paired with larger shared living spaces and two generous pools, giving it a more social feel — well suited to families or groups who enjoy gathering, lingering and letting the day carry on.

Both residences are designed to work around you: space to spread out, corners to retreat to, and service that stays quietly in the background.

A residence that feels like a world of its own, as the day draws to a close.

Which residence suits you best? We’re happy to advise.
