This week we spoke to David Pallinder, CTO at UA.

What are the reasons you are in this profession?
I was very curious as a child. I love the ocean so I wanted to become a marine biologist at first but then my father brought home a computer and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I wanted to know how it worked so I had to teach myself until I knew and then I became stuck on it. I taught myself how to programme and how to build things. That’s what I truly like: building things for other people. How they make something you’ve built into their own.

Who is Chewie?
Chewie is my little puppy. He’s seven months old and is both a sweetheart and a gangster. He’s a Maltipoo, a mixture between a Malteser and a Toy Poodle, making him smart, loving of humans and very hyperactive. Either he’s sleeping or running around like crazy. But Chewie is worth it, he makes me and other people in the office happy.

What is the best thing about working at UA?
We have a cool vision and we’re not trying to do anything simple, it’s actually very complicated. Also the mixture of people. We’ve managed to get a lot of fun and really good people with different nationalities whom I really like to work with. So the fact that we’re building something interesting and the people is what’s the best with UA.

This week's interview is with Jovan Velkoski - Designer at UA

How long have you worked at UA/Varvet and what are you working on now?
I have worked at Varvet for one year now. My work role is as a designer, both on external and internal projects. I’m working with initial UX-design, such as creating interfaces and front-end coding. Also, I’m responsible for the CRM system which is in the making.

What is your favourite holiday destination?
Tokyo. I used to work there and it was something completely new. There were so many new impressions that wasn't like anything I’ve seen before. My favourite thing to do on a vacation is to just wander around without a clear goal, and Tokyo is the perfect city for that!

What qualities do you think are good to have in your job?
I believe that confident humility is an important quality to have in this profession. And, honesty! It’s important to be able to realise what you are good at but also, your weaknesses and to speak up about it. Then you create the possibility to develop yourself and your team.
