The Swedish East African Chamber of Commerce (SWEACC) and the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen private-sector partnerships and healthcare delivery between Sweden and East Africa. This agreement focuses on several key healthcare initiatives but initial focus will be oncology, fighting cancer in Kenya (and East Africa).

The signing ceremony was hosted and oversees by Swedish Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Ambassador Håkan Åkesson and it took place in the Ambassadors resident in Nairobi. We want to create a better Healthcare and Impact cluster where companies in both Sweden and Kenya easily can find each other and create private-sector partnerships. To do this we need your help to survey what your interest and need are for healthcare partnerships between Sweden and Kenya.

Welcome to SWEACC Annual General Meeting 2026 on June 17th in Stockholm. We will elect our chair, board representatives and members will have a chance to review our financial statement for 2025.

All members with valid membership by 10th of June 2026 are welcome to attend and vote at the meeting. Valid membership means 2025/2026 membership invoice have been paid. The Annual Report for 2025 and the proposal from the election committee will be available on demand from SWEACC after 12th of June 2026 to review before meeting on June 17th. The Swedish East African Chamber of Commerce (SWEACC) and the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) has signed an MOU in Ambassador Håkan Åkesson resident on May 14th, 2026.

SWEACC and KHF will work with private sector, focusing on business and partnerhips inside the healthcare sector, but both parties have decided to focus on cancer first, and together formulated a Sweden – Kenya Oncology Investment, Healthcare and Impact Partnerships. The MOU was signed by Dr Anna Musuva, CEO for KHF and Tamara Nerima, Board Member SWEACC.

We will start arranging match-making events after summer and if you want to join our Healthcare & Impact Cluster, and other SWEACC events focusing on business and partnerships between Sweden and East Africa, you are welcome to contact Chairman Joachim Davidsson directly ([email protected]) who also lead Healthcare & Impact Cluster.

SWEACC and IVL invite you to a Green City cluster meeting focusing on the Circular Economy developing in East Africa along with water and waste challenges that could be Swedish opportunities.

This SWEACC/IVL event is open to both members and non-members of SWEACC. It will be a hybrid meeting with a Teams links shared to all who register from the registration link below. Please note in your registration if you will attend onsite or online.

East Africa as a market is shifting from traditional linear waste disposal to circular resource recovery models, developing new strategies and process industry opportunities for plastics, electronics, food waste and other materials. Today 5-10% of waste is recycled, and there is a growing recycling industry along with increased sustainable manufacturing.

In the water and sanitation sectors gaps are vast, causing health and environmental hazards. Solutions for water treatment, efficient reuse and robust infrastructure are needed both in urban and rural settings.

We will listen to case studies about practical approaches to waste management, recycling, drainage management, wetlands, wastewater and urban waterway maintenance.

New partnership in East Africa. The Swedish East African Chamber of Commerce (SWEACC) have signed an MOU with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA). This agreement was signed by SWEACC Chair Mr Joachim Davidsson and Dr Aynalem Abayneh, Vice President for ECCSA. The signing ceremony was overseen by Hampus Holmer, Second secretary, Political Affairs and Trade at the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa and members from SWEACC and ECCSA.

This will be the starting point of a new relationship focused on business and partnerships between Sweden and Ethiopia. This is a very interesting market as Ethiopia offers access to one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, featuring well over 120 million people, a competitive young workforce, a government that is currently working hard on political reforms, privatization of state operations, and a country that will host Cop32 next year in 2027. We see alot of business and investment opportunities between Sweden and Ethiopia and look forward to a long term partnership with ECCSA.

Sharing some snap shots from the Ethiopia EU Business Forum that took place from April 20 to today April 22nd in Addis Ababa. Some 550 people attending and it was nice to see so many Europeans here, wish perhaps more Swedish. Beside interesting match-making during these 3 days it was interesting seminars about Ethiopia’s digital future, new energy solutions, business facilitation, supply chains in Africa’s Horn, strengthening health systems, new solutions for capital market development and much more. For sure there are a lot of interesting things developing in Ethiopia.

It was also a change for EU member states to showcase themselves and engage in business match-making and we took part in many interesting meetings. Time for Team Europe to shine! We finish with field visit to EthioFrench CreaTech forum for digital creative companies and innovative startups. This was one of many field visits offered but we wanted to know more about ICT and creative skillset development in Ethiopia. Perhaps we can find ways for Sweden and Ethiopia to work together in knowledge driven business? This is a topic we will talk about further.

This evening SWEACC attended Founders Dinner arranged by Founders Alliance at the Ethiopian restaurant Ethiostar in Stockholm. This was a gathering of Founders Alliance members to introduce them to Ethiopia and Kenya before a group member trip in October. SWEACC Deputy Heaven Bereket in picture with H.E. Ambassador Mehreteab Mulugeta, representing Ethiopia here in Scandinavia and Ambassador Mulugeta also gave us an introduction how to eat Ethiopian style food in the proper way.

Next stop for SWEACC is the Ethiopia EU Business Forum next week in Addis Ababa and we hope to have many interesting news to bring to our members in Sweden.
