It is with sadness that we announce the passing of my father, Joseph L. Allen. He was born on March 1, 1935 in Nephi, Utah to Joseph Berry (August 8, 1912 – October 8, 2002) and Wanda Hancock Allen (May 20, 1915 – November 11, 2009). Much of his early life was spent in Grover, Utah with occasional stays with his grandparents in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joe was the oldest of five children. He had 27 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Dad's firm belief was that the Book of Mormon is a true account of two major civilizations that lived in the New World during Pre-Colombian times. It's message is to teach Christ and His Atonement. He always taught that the more we understand about the history, language, culture, and geography of the Book of Mormon, the more we understand the Book of Mormon.
His last day was spent teaching a new friend about the Book of Mormon. His greatest desire, like Lehi, was that all of his family would come and partake of the fruit of the tree of life. He followed Nephi’s example and lived after the manner of happiness (see 2 Nephi 5:27).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Cascade Third Ward chapel at 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:00 – 10:30 am. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, June 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. A live streaming option will also be available for the funeral on the Olpin website: olpinmortuary.com. His complete obituary can also be found there.
Joseph loved missionary work and families and has asked that in lieu of flowers to please donate to the LDS Church Missionary Fund or to Primary Children’s Hospital.
