I love Riddarbageriet.
It’s close to Dramaten, yet tucked away on a quiet side street, a true hidden gem. This is the kind of place mostly locals from the neighborhood come to.

The pastries are excellent, and what I appreciate most is that it’s not trendy or crowded. It’s small, calm, and unpretentious - though the pastries are great.

What do I think about their semla? It’s excellent. A proper, classic semla with no unnecessary twists. The bun is fresh, the cream is freshly whipped, exactly how it should be.

But what I loved even more was the atmosphere. You can sit quietly in a corner and watch the locals come in. The lady knows them and gently asks, “The usual?”
There’s something deeply comforting about that.

It feels like more than just a bakery. Being there gives you a sense of belonging - as if, for an hour or two, you’re part of the neighborhood’s everyday life, not just a visitor passing through.

That’s what I value most about places like this.

The semla season is officially on and I am back with my quest for the best semla in Stockholm.

I wish I could try EVERY SINGLE one in town, but I usually end up tasting 10-15 per season.

I kicked off the series with my favourite semla from the last year. This one is from

Yes, still 10 out of 10. A truly fabulous semla. I think those of you who love classical semla might think that the almond bits are too chunky and too roasted, it adds a modern twist which is not to everybody’s liking. But the bun is so good, and the cream is whipped to perfection.

Just one downside - the place is usually overcrowded. Not cozy most of the time.
