Time to plan ahead for the Black Grouse season, they will start to lek in late March here. You stay the night in a comfortable, wooden, hide/cottage on the site with 4 beds, heater and loo, in the early morning u walk 50 meters to position yourself in tent hides that will bring u right next to the leking birds. Normally 25-50 birds attend the lek. Its an inpressive and photographically superb and challenging performance. Ulf Jonfelt got these pictues last year. Read more on birdsafarisweden.se

You might think it's a distant moon, but in fact it is venus rising behind the Hawk Owl. I got lucky to see this on the darkest day of the year, just after sunset, on the 21.st of December 2024. October-November before the snow comes, is a good season for Eagle photography in the Black River Valley. Autumn colours are rich and warm. Good weather days photo light is often brilliant since the sun is low all day. Gunnar Sandstrom got these images of a young Golden Eagle last week.

Action in front of the Black River Eagle hide the other day. Jan-erik Isaksson got these pictures of a young Golden Eagle. The pictures are taken from our low angle shutters. We also have regular height shutters.

The Eagle season kicked off this sunny week with 2 very productive sessions. Ulf Jonfelt got these pictures on a juvenile Golden Eagle coming really close to the hide. As u can see the pictures are taken from our low angle shutters. A handful of White-tailed Eagles were also present. More pictures to come.

Säsongens 1.a kungsörn har kommit till matningen i svartådals-skogarna. En ungfågel precis som den på bilden. (Foto: Ulf Jonfelt) Inte bara en av de vackraste örnarna, men också hoppingivande att se resultat på lyckad häckning. Vår örnfotokoja har 2 rum, ett för sittande och ett för liggande fotografering. Det finns gluggar i 3 väderstreck.

Härligt möte med höstens 1.a hökuggla i Öjesjöbrännan igår. Slog en mus, åt upp den och flög sen vidare. Några bilder hann det bli i det fina ljuset. 3.e fyndet i Västmanland på en vecka.
Nice encounter with a Hawk Owl yesterday. First for the season here but the 3.rd record in the county (Västmanland) this week. Can we hope for a good Hawk Owl winter? Last year they were abscent!

Äntligen!!! Tornseglarna svärmar o srrriar över gårn downtown Västerås. Minst 30 stycken. De har varit så tysta hittills i vår, färre också tycker jag. Är det för det på sistone relativt kalla vädret och att de inte hittat mat tillräckligt för att komma igång med häckningen? Såg parning i fredags..det måste väl rimligen vara senare än normalt? Vad har ni för intryck ute i landet?

Capercaillies are still performing but the season will soon come to an end. Most females seem to be mated and are probably laying eggs and starting ro incubate now. Simon Green got these pictures on our lek on the 1.st of May.
