Summer is in full swing here in Sweden. We have a proper heatwave forecast for next week, with an outside chance of a new Swedish record for Målilla next Sunday (currently 38c, set in 1947).

It's a good job our kommun has 350 lakes to stay cool in!

We went for a lovely 8km walk this morning around Äsen, with a couple of swims on the way around. Äsen is one of my favourite local lakes (6km outside of the village) as the water lacks peat staining, the shoreline is rugged and there are plenty of islands.

We saw no other people though we were treated to a lot of wildlife and crystal clear water at 24c.

After a long, but beautifully snowy winter - with 30cm of ice on the lake, spring has sprung in Virserum!

7 nights accommodation for two in our own charming, cosy cabin (500m from the lake), bike hire x2 plus one kayak or two paddleboards - £400. (normally £475!).

Discounts also available for long stays - come and work from our cabin (WiFi included) and enjoy a swim in the lake before work, in your lunchbreak and again after work!

We can also organise very affordable accommodation for larger groups - bring the whole family, or swim/ cycle club!!

We have had a busy few weeks, welcoming returning and new guests to our beautiful corner of Sweden! 🇸🇪

July is packed out, but we have some availability in our two-person cabin between 29 July and 22 August. We are also able to arrange accomodation in larger cabins and holiday houses for bigger groups.

Summer 2025: Package deal for two

Come and stay at Hazel Cottage and enjoy discounted cycle hire.

We've invested in a modest fleet of brand new bikes from the Norwegian brand White Bikes, with sizes from small to large. These versatile gravel/mountain bikes allow you to access all the forest roads and lakes hidden within them.

We still have several weeks available over summer, and you can hire the cottage and a pair of bikes for an all-inclusive price of £450. We can plan any number of cycle routes for you, taking you to the best and most secluded lakes, cafes and lakeside saunas.

We have inflatable Sevylor kayaks (fits in your car boot) and paddleboards available for hire too.

Cycle rides at dawn are always a treat here in Sweden. This morning I saw a large wild boar, yesterday a moose. Both just directly beside the road. Not to mention all the cranes, woodpeckers, deer and a fox too.
