LUME Studio was home to me the last 3 days as we all hung out in this cozy green living room space meeting old and new friends, sharing life shenanigans, musings and conversations for this SG60 pop up 🏠🇸🇬

While this event is officially a wrap, is it too cheesy to say my heart will still go on?

[ COFFEE KOPI TIME ☕️ ]

I have always wanted to create a retro Singaporean Kopi and Rooster cup design and what better way to showcase our unique diversity by painting them on a modern double walled coffee glass 🤪🇸🇬

Together with , we have joyfully created and painted this eclectic SG60 series for our pop up with X 😍😍😍 I also couldn’t resist adding a sunflower collection as part of our wishes for our little red dot 🔴 to continue shining brightly as a kind and a gracious city 🌼🌱

Every pop up brings mixed feelings of excitement, gratitude and nervousness AND I’m so glad I’m joined by for this upcoming pop up! 🙃🤩

[ Story Art ]

Inspired by gardens, forests, fields, waves, stories, flowers, animals, friendships, companionships, calmness, peace and joyful play, we are SO EXCITED to finally be able to share with all of you - our ‘Story Art’ Accessories Holders ❣️❣️❣️ Each one is a unique design, available in one piece only - hand-painted by and me! 🎨

Every morning when i wake up, seeing these landscape art and the cute figurines sitting on my shelf brings a warm smile to my heart ❤️ I was sharing with that i think i’m gonna miss each of these Story Art very much 😭🥲

‘Story Art’ will be available at our upcoming pop up with x next week on 12-14 August, 11am-4pm if you’ll like to lovingly adopt any of them 🌱 The figurines are movable for you to play around with them; creating your own everyday stories 💕

[ Here We Are ]

🙂🏡

It is coming to our 19th year staying at Queenstown, Singapore estate and I cannot imagine moving anywhere else to be home sweet home 🥲🏠 Queenstown is the first satellite new town in Singapore and is named after Queen Elizabeth ll to mark her coronation in 1953.

This morning, I felt so honoured to have a group of seniors visit our home studio as part of a Queenstown heritage trail walking tour by Tapestry Trails 🇸🇬

Shared with the group how when we first moved here in 2006, we wanted to honour and celebrate our local community’s businesses so we actually got our rattan dining chairs from a local craftsman located at Alexandra Village🪑 When we started our Sunshine&Love home studio in 2015, we also explored collaborating with an gelato shop located near ABC Brickworks Food Centre to gift our participants a tub of their delicious gelato after they attended our craft workshop! 🍨

As our nation turns 60 years old soon, I would like to say thank you dear Singapore for being my home that I have grew to appreciate and love over the years as we journey on in our everyday’s unfolding stories ❤️

[ 🌻🌞 ]

Can never get tired of painting sunflowers! 🥹🌻 Maybe it’s the pretty shades of yellow, maybe it’s the therapeutic painting process, maybe I’m also biased as it’s one of my favourite flowers 🥹🌼

Had lots of fun painting this pair of espadrilles and I hope it will meet its Cinderella owner at our upcoming pop up with at ☺️🌼

[ Hello August ☕️🎵🌼]

Recently there have been new friends and followers who said hello and I thought it’s been a long time since i did a post - even though I don’t always know what to share 🙃💕

Some fun facts:

I can live without a TV (probably only for a while?! 🤪) but definitely not without music everyday! Thankful we now have smart phones where I can bring my music everywhere I go including the bathroom and toilet 😆🫣🤪 I have a playlist on Spotify which includes songs from all genres and languages 🎶🎵

It’s been 10 years and I still love painting but painting for work these years with has brought me through seasons where somedays I feel obligated with a sense of responsibility more than joy and peace. I’m grateful for the last 2 years of learning to go slow, to adjust and realign my inner being to not see work as my core identity but instead a place where I can be a blessing to the people around me 🥹🙏

I’m thank-full for the opportunity to bounce back from my long break to paint with and join X (with new and old friends ) for a cafe-bazaar SG60 pop up. (Swipe left to check out more details!) 🌱

[ ‘Story Art’ Accessories Holder ]

Everyday is a story to live out a new chapter of our lives 🙂🌱📖 Every person we meet, every path we take leads us to crossroads with the opportunity of a new journey! 🌈🌱

When I was attempting to paint this wooden tray, I was thinking of a crossroad path and couldn’t resist making a story art out of these two travelling figurines and a handpainted aerial landscape city view 💁🏻‍♂️💁🏻‍♀️🌳 These figurines which come with the accessories holders can be moved around - for you - to create your own story 📖🌱

It’s our first time painting a wooden accessories holder like this! 🥰🎨 In the weeks ahead, and I will be painting a few more pieces of ‘Story Art’. They are perfect holders to display your cute accessories, trinkets, stationery and knick knacks ☺️🗝️💍🖇️

[ Starting Again ]

It took me a week to muse about sharing a vulnerable side of me: i realised i need to find courage to start again…to practice painting again, to begin at where i am 🥲🙏

It’s been a few months of being away from the home studio’s painting table as I have been involved with caregiving duties as my mum in law had a bad fall in April-early May. I feel kinda rusty and out of touch with 🥹🙏 I was also in self denial about doing something with my “老花/lao hua” eyesight. Today, I decided to pick up the courage to go try out reading glasses as my eyesight to observe close up painting strokes has been quite a challenge 🥹🙏

Thankful for life’s opportunities to grow inside out (no matter how slow-mo the process goes) and it’s really good to have friends painting together! I’m so grateful and happy to have ’s company to paint with me! We are starting again (starting small and taking baby steps) to paint some Little Red Dot doodle people 🔴 and Birds of Singapore inspired series 🇸🇬 for an upcoming SG60 pop up in August with 😉🙂 Stay tuned for more updates as we chug along to start at where we are 🌱🌱🌱

[ My warm hugs home ]

Today I dropped by to clear out my shelf space after being a shelfie resident for a year 🥹🙏

What I didn’t expect was to see more new notes left by sweet strangers who visited my shelf and found out that one more of my handpainted glass mugs got sold on my birthday (when I checked my transaction history!) 😭🙏 At that moment, a wave of “i’m gonna miss you” sadness and nostalgia feelings hit me pretty hard. My heart literally ached 😭😭

This space has been such a warm hugs home to me and to house our sunshine-themed books and handpainted glasses. I started out by signing up for 6 months as a personal passion project without expecting much in return and extended another 6 months because I couldn’t bear to say bye yet. The time has come to give my shelf space to the next shelfie 42 owner, and to the new owner, I hope you’ll enjoy the warm hugs space at as much as I did 🥲🥰

This passion project at for me has blessed my heart greatly and I’m really so thankful for the new friends made through this community! ❤️

P.S. Thanks to Hui Ting the librarian on duty today for processing my admin matters! And thank you for being so accommodating to allow my handpainted glasses to have a safe space (literally!) at ❤️

[ Gifts 🎁 ]

Throwback a couple of months back to this special customised gift that and I painted for our client! She wanted us to glass paint this bunny on a couch designed by Taiwanese artist ~ emmaAparty for her dearest friend’s birthday 🐰💕 with the words “Life Happens, Wine Helps” on a wine glass 🤓🙃🤓🙃

Painting this colourful couch was quite a challenge and to be brutally honest, we were initially not sure if we could eventually achieve the design’s original look and feel! Grateful that gamely took up this challenge request for our client 🥹🙏 Thank you for trusting us with this gift request! 😌🍷

[ Musings 🌼🍃 ]

Haven’t been able to be as active in this space here as my mum in law had a fall and much time on my hand was needed to spend helping out with caregiving at home 🥹🙏

Today though was one of those days, I felt compelled to make a gift for a dear teacher mentor from a ladies Bible study fellowship group that I joined two years ago. Then I was in a really bad shape after being discharged from the hospital for my depression relapse and figured that maybe it might be good to be part of a community group that studies the words of wisdom and encouragement verses from the Bible.

To be honest, in the beginning, I was rather intimidated and wasn’t sure if I could fit in and be able to commit to the homework involved. With much encouragement, friendships made and care from my teacher mentor and the other ladies in this small group, I slowly felt more comfortable and got encouraged when I took time out to study and read God’s words to guide my days ahead as I recover.

Next week is our last Bible study class together and I wanted to make a small gift to thank my teacher mentor for making time weekly these two years to pray with me and sincerely making time to listen to my musings when I have too much on my heart and mind 🥹🙏🌼 Listening is a precious gift and I truly appreciate her heart and gift of time for me 🥲🥲

Sharing some pics here of this mixed media piece that I had fun making this evening to unwind abit from caregiving and running errands for the family. This artwork is filled with lots of imperfections of my brush pen lettering (lol) so please be kind with your comments ok!! 😝🙃 I hope to explore more pieces like this as it was a fun experience creating this 🙂❤️

So thankful that Sunshine&Love could be part of Lendlease corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity, where we joined students with additional needs from AWWA Special Student Care Centre (SSCC) to create a canvas light art ✨✨

Together with the dedicated volunteers from Lendlease and the lovely AWWA SSCC students, we had so much fun dotting away with different paint colours, enjoying the therapeutic painting experience 🎨 Using cotton buds, we created many dot patterns to form a dandelion artwork!

Dandelions are often seen as a symbol of hope, dreams, and new beginnings. There is a folk tradition of making a wish on a dandelion which involves blowing on the seed and as you do that the seeds carried by the wind, will also carry your wish into the world, hopefully with it coming true 😇🤲 We hope that as the volunteers and SSCC students work on the artwork together, that someday their wishes and dreams will come true too! 🥰✨

It was truly such a joy to see the students’ faces light up with much smiles and laughter when we turned on the fairy lights at the end for a group photo 🥲✨ These are such precious moments for us all and the sunshine team is grateful to be part of this special CSR activity 🥹❤️✨ Thank you everyone for being so amazing and awesome! 🙌

“For the love of sunshine & handpainted gifts”

Sunshine & Love is a local artisan who focuses on creating happy handpainted gifts from your everyday objects. We love seeing these seemingly mundane items get transformed into unique works of art that can be used as vases, drinking jars, stationery holders, money banks, home decoration items etc. Every item created is unique and 100% handpainted.

About the Chief Painter

Amelia enjoys handpainting on your everyday objects like mason jars, plates, mugs, beer bottles, and even pasta sauce bottles! She loves seeing them transformed into happy gifts for the people around her. One of the things Amelia enjoys the most about creating jar and plate art is when her clients share their gift requests and design ideals. Each request is so unique and special! Besides individual requests, her clients include Sew Into It, All Saints Home, Coffee Today Cafe, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, WorldWide Marriage Encounter, Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She has also collaborated with Terra Village, Sprout Language Centre and Chinatown Heritage Centre for festive workshops and events. Other signature events that Amelia has participated in include Singapore Design Week, Makers Faire, ArtBox Singapore, Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival Light up and URA’s Streets for People.
