Not to be missed at the Toa Payoh Lor 8 food centre (eight stop on our Makan Bus route) is Zheng Xing Fried Kway Teow Mee! The char kway tiao here is slightly different from the usual as it's not as sweet and has a lighter flavour which goes really well with the cockles, Chinese sausage and a good dose of wok hei!

Today's lunch trail takes us to Toa Payoh Lor 8! The hawker centre located at the eight stop of our Makan Bus route has quite a few of our local favourites - and featured here, is the beef noodles from Joo Chiat Beef King. You can have it wet (with soup) or dry (with gravy) and I personally like the dry version with the thick, flavourful sauce coating the rice noodles and topped with braised beef tendon and tasty beef balls!

Otah is a local snack made from fish meat mixed with spices and can be found at most hawker centres in Singapore. This sweet yet spicy fish cake is so addictive we're pretty sure you can't just stop at one!

The story of THE original Katong Laksa goes way back to the 1960s and many claim that the guys at Janggut Laksa were the ones who had invented the dish. The laksa here is slightly muted and is served with fresh cockles, prawns and fishcake and there's also a newly-introduced crayfish rendition at their newest outlet at 331 Upper Paya Lebar Road!

There's nothing more iconic than satay to Lau Pa Sat in Singapore. Set in the bustling business district, this place transforms to a satay street by night. With more than 10 satay stalls, you can expect a variety of Chinese and Malay style skewers of perfectly-grilled chicken, beef or mutton. Yum!

Ding Ji Wanton Noodle 鼎记云吞面家 in the heartlands of Serangoon Central is a nondescript stall that serves up a good bowl of traditional wanton mee! The noodles here pack a good bite and the wanton dumplings are exceptionally tasty with a mix of pork and prawn flavours. We also strongly suggest you give their braised chicken feet a try!

Chicken wings are much-loved in many cuisines and in Singapore hawker food style, we grill them over charcoal. Typically known as BBQ Chicken Wings, they are served slightly charred, with a fresh squeeze of lime and an accompanying chilli dip for that perfect sweet-savoury-spicy mix.

Lost and Found! Boat Quay (Original) Mushroom Noodle has its roots dating back to its pushcart days in 1984 and has now resettled at Punggol. The bak chor mee here is served the old school way with handmade Teochew fishballs, meatballs and fish dumplings and noodles tossed in chilli, vinegar, soya sauce and a good amount of lard. Not as fancy as some other award-winning noodles but this definitely makes a traditional bowl of comfort food.

There's nothing like an iced, cold cup of sugarcane juice on a hot day and you can easily get your fix of this thirst-quenching goodness at any hawker centre in Singapore. Don't forget to add some lemon juice for that little bit more zest!

It doesn't matter if you're black or white here at Lau Goh Carrot Cake! Both versions come with a generous dose of chai poh (Chinese dried radish) though my personal favourite is the white version cause it has a distinctively unique bite to it that sets it apart from most hawker stalls!

Thinking about what to have for lunch? What about claypot rice? Like the name suggests, this dish is cooked in a claypot, typically over a charcoal stove for that distinctive smokey aroma. I especially love the charred flavour and Chinese sausages in it!
