What can Singapore and Hong Kong learn from each other about building more inclusive communities? 🇸🇬🇭🇰

That was part of the conversation this morning as Ludus Lab conducted an Enabling Village visit for the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women | Anti480 Resource Centre from Hong Kong.

This wasn’t simply about touring the spaces.

The visit looked at the thinking behind Enabling Village — from social innovation and inclusive community design to how accessibility is considered in the environment.

An important part of the experience was also hearing directly from a guide with lived experience of disability, bringing a personal perspective to what inclusion can look like beyond policies and design concepts.

Different fields, different cities, but plenty of ideas to exchange.

🌏 Welcoming an International Para Va’a Delegation to Enabling Village! Fédération Polynésienne des Sports Adaptés et Handisport - FPSAH

We just wrapped up an Enabling Village tour with a delegation visiting Singapore for the Para Va’a World Championships. 🛶

The group included para athletes, technical and support staff, personal assistants, as well as wheelchair users.

Through the tour, we shared how accessibility and inclusion are thoughtfully integrated into the spaces and community at Enabling Village, creating an environment where people of different abilities can participate, connect and thrive.

After exploring the village, the delegation ended their visit with lunch at AMGD, an inclusive halal restaurant within Enabling Village. 🍽️

It was a pleasure for Ludus Lab to welcome our overseas guests and share a little more about Singapore’s journey towards greater accessibility and inclusion.

A morning of learning, trying, discovering and connecting! 🎥💜

Here’s a glimpse of what happened when SMU student volunteers joined Ludus Lab at Enabling Village!

From exploring the Village with our docent guide Jackie, to trying out wheelchair and white cane navigation, the students stepped out of the usual classroom setting and got involved firsthand.

There were challenges, conversations, laughter and plenty of moments that got everyone thinking.

The students also took part in interactive activities around communication, changing instructions and information overload — turning concepts into something they could actually experience.

Building greater understanding through experience 💜

This morning, we welcomed a group of SMU student volunteers to Enabling Village for an experiential learning and disability awareness programme.

The session began with an Enabling Village Learning Journey conducted by our docent guide, Jackie, where students explored inclusive design features and heard perspectives from the lived experience of disability.

The learning continued through interactive activities designed to help students better understand different communication and participation needs, including those of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Intellectual Disability (ID).

Through observation, activities, discussions and reflection, students explored an important question:
How can we create an environment where everyone has a fair opportunity to participate?

Sometimes inclusion isn't about providing more help. It's about making communication clearer, activities more accessible, and being willing to adapt to different needs.

We hope the experience will help equip the students with greater awareness and confidence as they take on their volunteer roles with SPD at the Enabling Services Hub.

A photo to remember, and conversations that will last far beyond the day. 💜

Yesterday, our docent guide Jackie had the privilege of speaking at NUS CAPT's Freshman Orientation, where he shared his personal life journey with a group of students.

By opening up about his experiences, Jackie encouraged the students to look beyond disability, embrace resilience, and recognise that everyone has unique strengths to contribute.

Seeing the students gather together after the session for this group photo was a heartwarming reminder that meaningful conversations can bring people closer. Many shared that they felt inspired by Jackie's story, and we hope those reflections will continue to shape the way they see inclusion and the people around them.

A heartfelt thank you to NUS CAPT for the invitation and to all the students for your warm welcome, thoughtful questions, and enthusiasm. We wish you all the very best as you begin this exciting new chapter at university!

Welcoming Future Leaders from Around the World to Enabling Village 🌏

Ludus Lab was honoured to host delegates from the 17th Hwa Chong Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Summit (HC-APYLS) 2026 as part of their learning journey at Enabling Village.

The summit brought together 75 student leaders from 22 schools across 13 countries, providing a platform for young leaders to explore global challenges, exchange perspectives, and develop solutions for a more inclusive future. The visit to Enabling Village was one of the official learning journeys of the summit.

More than just learning about accessibility, the delegates experienced how thoughtful design, assistive technology, and an inclusive community can empower persons with disabilities to thrive.

Some of their reflections truly touched us:

💬 "EV is the best thing we've visited."

💬 "I really enjoyed the EV because it was so interesting to see all the different ways technology could be used to help foster a more equitable and safe society."

💬 "Our tour guide was really inspiring... she is proof that literally anything is possible."

💬 "It is something unique to Singapore. Few countries have environments so thoughtfully designed for vulnerable communities."

After the tour, many delegates also shared that they had learnt to:
• Consider the needs of everyone when designing products, spaces and services.
• Never underestimate the abilities of persons with disabilities.
• Play a part in creating a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

These reflections remind us that the most meaningful learning comes through real conversations and lived experiences. We hope every delegate returns home inspired to become champions of inclusion in their own communities.

Sometimes, the most meaningful lessons aren't taught in a classroom—they're experienced.

We were delighted to welcome participants from to Enabling Village, where they explored how inclusive design, assistive technology, and accessible spaces empower persons with disabilities to live, work, and thrive independently.

Beyond the innovations, it was the conversations that left the deepest impact. By hearing the personal journeys of our guides, participants gained a new perspective on resilience, inclusion, and the importance of creating opportunities for everyone.

Their reflections say it best:

💬 "The guides were incredibly inspiring. Listening to their personal stories gave me a deeper appreciation of their experiences. It was eye-opening and humbling to learn directly from them."

✨ A meaningful first step outside the classroom!

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming the SMU staff for their very first outdoor learning journey at Enabling Village.

Together, we explored how thoughtful design, accessibility, and inclusion empower people of all abilities to live, work, and thrive independently. More than just a tour, it was an opportunity to see the world through a different lens and spark conversations about creating a more inclusive society.

We had the pleasure of hosting the team from *SCAPE at Enabling Village for a guided learning journey with us at Ludus Lab.

Together, we explored how inclusive design, shared spaces, and community initiatives open up real opportunities for persons with disabilities — and make everyday experiences better for everyone.
